Who’s Who in the Black Rabbit Cast: Meet the Brothers, Bartenders, and Bad Guys

Jude Law, Jason Bateman, and more star in a New York City odyssey.
    Sept. 19, 2025

Black Rabbit is a family business — for better and for worse.

The new series from creators Zach Baylin and Kate Susman follows Jake Friedken (Jude Law), the up-and-coming restaurateur behind Black Rabbit, a shining New York City hotspot. He started the eatery with his brother Vince (Jason Bateman), but the troubled Vince has been off the grid for years now. When he returns to New York, he quickly drags Jake down a whirlpool of deceit into the city’s criminal underworld, jeopardizing Black Rabbit and everything else Jake has built.

“Kate and I were both interested in the idea of a restaurant being this epicenter of a city and a meeting place for all different kinds of people and a second home to others,” Baylin tells Tudum. “We started narrowing down who these characters were and that the show would be about two brothers, Jake and Vince.”

Against the backdrop of the brothers, we meet a variety of players, from Black Rabbit’s staff to mobsters to wealthy investors with problems of their own. “We feel so lucky with the cast we got,” Susman tells Tudum. “Everyone is so good and incredibly invested in their roles. On the page, all these characters were one thing, but were made completely three-dimensional and something totally different by the actors.”

Read on to meet the full cast of Black Rabbit — and be sure to leave a tip.

The Brothers

Jude Law as Jake in ‘Black Rabbit.’

Jude Law

as Jake
About the Character

At the beginning of Black Rabbit, Jake has it all together. Business is booming, and he’s even thinking about expanding. It’s a far cry from his wild younger years — until Vince returns and things quickly implode.

“When you meet Jake, he has sort of turned his life around,” Law tells Tudum. “The restaurant has become highly successful. He’s put aside his juvenile behavior and really taken the reins of the place and made it a success, and made himself a success — or so it seems.” What happens next is anyone’s guess.

Previously In

Law was Oscar nominated for his captivating turns in The Talented Mr. Ripley and Cold Mountain. He’s appeared in films including The Grand Budapest Hotel, The Nest, and Spy and in series such as The Young Pope and Star Wars: Skeleton Crew. Law is one of Black Rabbit’s executive producers.

Jason Bateman as Vince in ‘Black Rabbit.’

as Vince
About the Character

At the beginning of Black Rabbit, Vince has none of it together. The former addict is struggling to make ends meet by hook or by crook, finally leading him back to his brother’s front door. Old habits die hard.

“He makes a bunch of mistakes and is risky to have around, but he’s a well-meaning guy,” Bateman tells Tudum. “He’s a problem, but he’s super lovable because he’s just not that bright. And you have empathy for a guy who you can see is trying to make the right decision, but just can’t get out of his own way.”

Bateman was nominated for multiple Primetime Emmys for his turns in beloved series Arrested Development and Ozark; in 2019, he won for directing an episode of Ozark. He’s starred in films including Air, Juno, and Bad Words (which he also directed). Bateman is one of Black Rabbit’s executive producers.

Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù

as Wes
About the Character

Musician and Black Rabbit investor Wes is a close friend of Jake’s. He’s also a fixture of Black Rabbit’s social scene.

“We knew Wes was going to be very complicated to cast because we needed someone who could be a presence that we believed immediately was a superstar,” Baylin tells Tudum. “And Ṣọpẹ́, from the moment he inhabited Wes — all those fears were alleviated. He’s so talented and actually incredibly musical himself. He brought a level of naturalism to a character that needed to be big; he really grounded him.”

Dìrísù has appeared in the series Gangs of London and Slow Horses and films including The Gorge and Mr. Malcolm’s List. He’ll next star in All the Sinners Bleed, based on S.A. Cosby’s bestselling 2023 novel.
