Birthday Party Favors by Ellen Haxelmans

Birthday Party Favors by Ellen Haxelmans | Newton's Birthday Bash Stamp Set, Newton Loves Cake Stamp Set, Bleat Stamp Set and Die Sets by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook

Kitty Themed Birthday Party!

Today Ellen has created a fun set of projects that are PURR-fect for kitty themed birthday party!

First, she decorated two party hats using our cute birthday themed cat images.  The hat on the left uses the image of a kitty eating birthday cake from our Newton Loves Cake Stamp Set. The hat on the left uses the image of the kitty opening gifts from our Newton's Birthday Bash Stamp Set. She colored both images with alcohol markers, adding tiny spots for details and pink cheeks. Then she cut the images out using the coordinating Newton Loves Cake Die Set and Newton's Birthday Bash Die Set. She also added hats and bits of confetti from the Newton Celebrates Stamp Set and Newton's New Year Stamp Set

She layered all the pieces over a circle that was cut out using our Circle Frames Die Set and adhered them to the fronts of the birthday hats!Birthday Party Favors by Ellen Haxelmans | Newton's Birthday Bash Stamp Set, Newton Loves Cake Stamp Set, Bleat Stamp Set and Die Sets by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook
Next, she created a fun birthday banner:

For the banner she used the cupcake with a bite cut out of it from the Bleat Stamp Set. Then she added the cupcakes to banners cut out using our Frames & Flags Die Set. For the center, she cut out another circle using our Circle Frames Die Set and added the "Did someone say CAKE?" message from our Newton Loves Cake Stamp Set, embossed in gold!

Cinco de MEOW! Card by Donna Idlet

Cinco de MEOW Card by Donna Idlet | Newton Loves Tacos Stamp Set, Frames & Flags Die Set, Oval Frames Die Set and A7 Frames & Banners Die Set by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook

Happy Cinco de "Meow"!

Today is Cinco de Mayo and we are celebrating, with Cinco de "Meow!" greetings! This fun card was created today by Donna

For this fun celebratory card Donna stamped the image the kitty in a cocktail glass rom our Newton Celebrates Stamp Set for her main image. She colored image along with the image of the little birthday hat and cut them out using the coordinating Newton Celebrates Die Set. She used our new Newton Loves Tacos Stamp Set too, adding the image of the cat shaped taco into the kitties raised paw! So adorable! This little taco was cut out using the coordinating Newton Loves Tacos Die Set. She layered the kitty over a vellum oval that was cut out using our Oval Frames Die Set

For her card base she created a beautiful rainbow inked background using distress inks. She used our  Frames & Flags Die Set for the shape and masked off the edges so they would stay white while she inked inside the  stitched edge of the scalloped rectangle. What a great way to get more color without adding extra layers!

She also added confetti to the background, stamped from the Newton Celebrates Stamp Set. The finishing touch is the sentiment "Happy Cinco De MEOW" from the Newton Loves Tacos Stamp Set. She embossed the sentiment in white onto the little black banner that was die cut out using the banner from our A7 Frames & Banners Die Set

This card would be perfect to send for a celebration on Cinco de Mayo!

Birthday Card by January Guest Designer Peggy Emmerink-Moonen

Hi crafty friends! This is already my last card as a January guest designer for Newton's Nook Designs and I've had a blast! I hope you were inspired too. Now without further ado, let's take a look at how it came together!
Mini Slimline Birthday Card by January Guest Designer Peggy Emmerink-Moonen | Newton Celebrates Stamp Set and Cascading Stars Stencil by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade
I started by cutting two mini slimline panels, one from a gray and white patterned paper and one from my regular sturdy white cardstock. I used Squeezed Lemonade, Kitsch Flamingo and Dried Marigold Distress Oxide Inks to create a fun background. Over top, I used the Cascading Stars Stencil to create some interest as well as stamped some of the small images from the Newton Celebrates Stamp Set in gold colored ink.
Mini Slimline Birthday Card by January Guest Designer Peggy Emmerink-Moonen | Newton Celebrates Stamp Set and Cascading Stars Stencil by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade
I used some text dies from my stash, to get the words 'sending' and 'hugs' for my card. I lightly colored the letters with my copics (BG11-13) and embellished them with glitter. I combined the die cut words with the 'happy' and 'birthday' sentiment from the Newton Celebrates Stamp Set to create a new sentiment to fit my card. I adhered the separate letters from the word hugs by positioning them on my card the way I wanted them and picking them up using a long strip of washi tape. Just flip it around, add liquid glue and attach it to your card. This is a great tip when you need to outline separate elements on cards.

Lastly, I colored up the kitty with the champagne glass, the party hat and some pieces of confetti with my copic markers (E50-E55 for the kitty, BG11-13 and RV04-06 for the hat and confetti, Y21 and Y00 for the champagne and B0000-000-00 for the glass). I attached my image using some foam tape and added some glossy accents and glitter to finish my card.

So long for now and hope to meet you again online!

Long distance hugs,
-Peggy

Happy New Year crafty friends! Peggy here with my first card guest designing for Newton’s Nook Designs. Instead of opting for Christmas cards only, I also decided to make some New Year’s cards this year. It’s a fun break from the red, gold and green color scheme and a great way to start the new year crafty!

Let's Party Card by January Guest Designer Peggy Emmerink-Moonen | Newton Celebrates Stamp Set by Newton's Nook Designs
I love making slimline cards and so my first guest card simply had to be one. You can use any slimline die set you own or simply cut a panel to size with a paper trimmer. I started by cutting two panels, a base (the one with the scallops) and a top panel. I used three shapes to make cut-outs in my top panel. These will make a nice place to highlight my colored images and stamped sentiment.
Let's Party Card by January Guest Designer Peggy Emmerink-Moonen | Newton Celebrates Stamp Set by Newton's Nook Designs
Next, I took some texture paste and mixed in some silver paint. I covered the top panel with the Cascading Stars Stencil and used a palette knife to spread the paste evenly over the surface. I set the panel aside to dry. Seriously, don’t touch it for a good while :) (No it's not dry yet!)
Let's Party Card by January Guest Designer Peggy Emmerink-Moonen | Newton Celebrates Stamp Set by Newton's Nook Designs

I stamped my images from the Newton Celebrates Stamp Set using alcohol marker friendly ink. I used the E50 copic marker series for the kitty on the left, Cool Greys for the glass and the kitty on the right and the E30 series on the puppy. The green is YG91 through YG97, yellow accents are Y21, Y00 and Y000, and blue accents B14 and B93.

Let's Party Card by January Guest Designer Peggy Emmerink-Moonen | Newton Celebrates Stamp Set by Newton's Nook Designs

After my texture paste had dried I used a stamp positioning tool to stamp the 'Let's Party' sentiment from the Newton Celebrates Stamp Set into the cut-out in the middle of the panel. I adhered the top panel to the base with foam tape to give some dimension. Lastly, I adhered my images with both foam tape and liquid glue and used a white gel pen and some glossy accents for the finishing touch!

Hope you are inspired by my card! Sending long distance hugs!

Peggy

Squeal! You'll Love with These Piggy Cards by Ellen!

Today we have a trio of adorable piggy cards created by Ellen! She used the adorable pig images from our Oink Stamp Set to create three fun pig cards! For the first card (shown above) she used the piggy with the birthday cake. She colored the image and used the coordinating Oink Die Set to cut the image out. Then she layered it over a fun yellow splattered background that was cut out using our
Frames Squared Die Set.

If you like this splattered look on this little background piece, scroll to the end of this post for instructions on how to do this technique!

For the background she used our  for the large scalloped border. She also cut out the stitched rectangle using our Frames & Flags Die Set and stenciled confetti on it using our Confetti Stencil.

For the second piggy card, Ellen used the image of the pig with the big bow from our Oink Stamp Set and paired him with a pie slice from our Newton's Thanksgiving Stamp Set. So cute! She cut the images out with the coordinating Oink Die Set and Newton's Thanksgiving Die Set. She used a similar layout as the last card, adding layers using our Frames & Flags Die Set and Frames Squared Die Set. This time she used the Hardwood Stencil for the background panel.

The third piggy card using the cute image of the pig from our Oink Stamp Set lying on the ground. This time she paired the pig with the champagne glass from the Newton's New Year Stamp Set  and party hat from the Newton Celebrates Stamp Set. She used the coordinating dies to cut the pieces out and layered them again with shapes from our Frames & Flags Die Set and Frames Squared Die Set. On this card she also used our Bubbly Stencil for the background bubbles and added the "sip happens" sentiment from our Wine a Little Stamp Set.

Here's a little tutorial from Ellen on how to make the Splattered Backgrounds!

Splatter Background by Ellen Haxelmans | Frames Squared Die Set by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade

  • First apply your ink. It's best to use an ink that reacts with water like Distress ink or Oxide inks. I used Oxide inks. After that I used water. For this I use a mini mister with water. Take out the nozzle and tap with your finger on it. The water drops will fall on your paper. Wait till you see the ink reaction from the water and then dab wet areas away with a towel.
  • You can do the same ‘tapping’ technique with white Dylusions White Linen ink. The only difference is that I heat it with my heat gun to dry.
  • The last step is to apply a glimmer ink. For this I use Glitter Sprays are my favorite. After you sprinkled the ink, you dab the ink off with a towel.

Happy Birthday Floral Card by Ellen Haxelmans

Happy Birthday Floral Card by Ellen Haxelmans | Flower Trio, Holiday Greetings and "Framework Die Sets with Woodgrain Stencil by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade

Happy Birthday Flowers!

Today we are sharing a gorgeous floral Birthday Card by Ellen! She cut out the fun layered flowers using  Flower Trio Die Set. She cut the flowers out in shades of pink, layering them together and adding a sequins in the centers for sparkle. For the leaves she cut them from cardstock and then added color to the die cut shapes.

Here's a tip from her on how they were colored:
"I used my Copic Markers: for the brown I followed the curves with the markers E34 and E31. For the leaves I followed the grooves that the dies make when you cut them. I colored over these grooves with green YG05 and YG01."

Coloring die Cut Leaves by Ellen Haxelmans | Flower Trio Die Set by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade

She layered the flowers onto a panel of brown cardstock that was cut out using our Framework Die Set to give it a fun scalloped edge. She also added a fun woodgrain pattern to this panel using our Hardwood Stencil. She created a custom sentiment by cutting the word "happy" out using our Holiday Greetings Die Set and combining it with the word "birthday" stamped from our Newton Celebrates Stamp Set.

What a gorgeous combination of die cut images for a special Birthday creation!
