Hudson County is continuing to pay $120,000 a month to rent a building in Jersey City that is no longer occupied by county offices, The Jersey Journal reports.

The 10-year lease on the building, 100 Newkirk St., where the county housed its welfare agencies and other departments before they moved to County Plaza in May 2009, will expire on June 30, the Journal reports.

By that time, the county will have paid a whopping $2.9 million to rent eight stories of unused offices.

The building is owned by the mother of former Hudson County Democratic Organization chairman Bernard Kenny.
