Learn Samba

Brazil is the motherland of the bright and garish carnivals – incredible costumes, loud music, confetti, and dancing until the deep night!

It is impossible to imagine carnivals without Samba dance – a combination of different rhythms and motions, a little bit of this and a lot of that. Samba is a fiery blend and thanks to this, people across Brazil, Argentina, Venezuela and all America enjoy dancing it.

Origin and popularity

How did everything start? Emerging in the 19th century, Samba adopted African motions and rhythms. The dance started as an African folk circle dance. In the 1923s, Samba started winning popularity with lightning rapidity. France became the center of Samba classes lovers.

The first time Americans got to know about Samba goes back to 1933s. Brazil music with its unusual sounds and rhythmical movements made it beloved by European and American folks.

Today everybody wants to learn to dance the Samba and experience the outburst. Lots of Samba dance studios are opened across the USA and Europe, but Brazil still takes the key place in the amount of Samba dance schools.

Samba features

Initially, a street solo dance, Samba went through many changes. Now we see Samba as a mix of the main motions as:

  • Knee and ankle bouncing movements
  • Side steps
  • Kick change
  • Rocking body movements

These fast steps and moves should be done with ease and a little flirting feeling so that Samba dance could look unique and dramatic. In some cases, Samba may contain acrobatic elements to make it look more entertaining.
Samba is danced to fast and vigorous music with a distinctive rhythm of Brazilian musical instruments.

We are far from Brazil, so the carnival doesn’t come our way, but in our Samba classes Orange County we are always ready to give a party. Looking forward to you! Let`s get the rhythm movement moving!
