Power Consumption Report Introduction Mauritius has a population of approximately 1.27 million.

An economic growth rate averaging 56% annually for the past few decades has improved the welfare of citizens of Mauritius. Rising standards of living have also been accompanied by an increased demand for energy resources and greater generation of waste. Mauritius is heavily dependent on imported fossil fuels for power generation, transport, industry and cooking purposes. Besides fossil fuels, bagasse is the primary energy source for domestic energy use. Note that only 20-25% electricity is generated from hydro and bagasse.

CEB generation 4 thermal power stations in Port-Louis 8 hydroelectric stations. They make a small but very significant contribution to electricity generation.

Long term Electricity Stats Demand for electricity in Mauritius, according to electricity sales, is expected to rise from 1 492 GWh in 2002 to 2 436 GWh in 2012. This represents an average cumulative annual growth rate of 5%. The increase in demand of about 90 GWh per year is equivalent to the energy needed to supply more than 50 000 Mauritian households. Of 2012 sales: Residential sector will account for 768 GWh (32 %) Commercial sector for 816 GWh (33 %) Industrial and other sectors for the remaining 852 GWh (35%)

Forecasting process and methodology Gross Energy Generation Requirements = Energy Sales + Network Losses + Power Station Auxiliary Consumption The network loss is the percentage difference between total energy sent out from the power stations and total energy sales. Power Station Auxiliary Consumption is the internal consumption of electricity for each power station.
