Spelling Homework Choices
Students will be asked to complete a spelling activity each night. Students can
choose among 17 fun and creative ways to practice their spelling words. In a one week
period, an activity may be used only once. The assignments should be completed in
the provided pages in their Homework Packet. The activities are:
1. ABC order
Write your words in
alphabetical order.
2. Rainbow Writing
Write your words in
pencil, then trace over
each word with three
different colors.
3. Backwards Words
Write your words forwards,
then backwards.
4. Silly Sentences
Use all your words in
ten sentences.
5. Picture Words
Draw a picture and
write your words in the
picture.
6. Words without
vowels. Write you words
replacing all vowels with
a line.
7. Words without
Consonants
Write your words
replacing all
consonants with a line.
8. Story words
Write a short story
using all of your words.
9. Scrambled Words
Write your words, then
write them again with
the letters mixed up.
10. Sailboats
Write your words in
the sail of a sail boat.
11. Clipped Words
Write your words by
cutting out letters in a
newspaper or magazine
and glue them on your
homework spelling page.
12. Pyramid Words
Write your words
adding or subtracting
one letter at a time. The result
will be a pyramid
shape of words.
13. Words in-words
Write your word and
then use some or all of
the letters of that
word to make 2 new
words.
14. Magazine Words
Use an old magazine
or newspaper and find
your word. Cut it out
and glue it in your
notebook.
15. X Words
Write two words having one
common letter so they criss-
cross.
16. Other Handed
If you are right-
handed, write with
your left. If you are
left handed,
Write with your right.
17. Choo-Choo Words
Write the entire list
end-to-end as one long
word, using different
colors of crayon or ink
for different words.
