PFK Factfile 4

Trigonostigma heteromorpha, commonly known as the harlequin rasbora, is a small freshwater fish that originates from Asia. It grows up to 4.5 cm and lives in densely planted streams and tributaries with slightly stained water. In aquariums, it thrives in liberally planted tanks of 60 cm or larger with low to moderate water flow and dark substrates. Harlequin rasboras are voracious eaters that accept flake, pellet, and live foods like daphnia and bloodworm. They come in various farmed strains and make excellent community fish that do not nip at other shy species.

Harlequin rasbora

slightly stained water. Some populations found in

or more) with low to moderate flows, some leaf
litter and a little water staining. Use dark substrate
to bring out the colours.
l Water conditions: Soft and acidic to slightly base;
5.0-7.6pH, hardness below 12H
l Feeding: Ravenous little rasbora that will try to eat
things too big for their mouths. Offer flake, pellets
and plenty of live and frozen foods. Daphnia,

Calanus, Cyclops and bloodworm are all accepted

with excitement. Use colour enhancing flakes to
bring out the bright orange hues.
l Notes: Available in multiple farmed strains, including
golden, purple/blue and black, though the original
orange-peach with their black lamb chop markings
are the hardiest. An outstanding community species
that works incredibly well with shy fish like Fighters,
as it doesnt nip and isnt boisterous. Buy in
multiples of 12 to see them at their best, and expect a
long-lived, robust fish for your money.
