My Role Model: Maria Montessori

Maria Montessori was an Italian physician and educator born in 1870 who developed revolutionary theories in early childhood education. She opened her first Casa dei Bambini school in 1907, where she observed that children learn best through exploration and hands-on activities rather than traditional instruction. By 1925, over 1000 Montessori schools had opened in the US. Her methods emphasize respecting the individual needs and interests of each child and fostering independence through structured learning environments. Montessori's teachings still influence early education around the world today.
