Evaluation:
My product that I have advertised is Nike skate shoes, the
advert involves of a person skateboarding around his local park
showing off his new skate shoes, the editing of my advert is
edited to the beat to make the advert catchy as well as using a
catchy song to get in the consumers head and remember the
shoes. My target audience was for anyone from 11-30 or even
40s as there are still skaters who go on till that age and enjoy
it, I used mind maps to brainstorm ideas for this advert, I had
two separate ideas with the one I eventually used and an idea
of having different actors wearing different shoes in the
advertisement but I decided to go with my original idea after a
questionnaire that I sent out to find out what different people
would prefer, the results came back as a tie so thats when I
carried on with my original idea.
My advert is structured as linear production as it all happens in
the right order, it all starts from my character tying up his laces
and then come the scenes of him skating around the park and
ends with him looking at a fountain in the park.
In the duration of my advert there is no verbal dialogue, the
sound is just music and the skateboard moving along the
ground, the skateboard noise adds the effect that it is realistic
and diegetic as we see the object that makes the noise, where
as in wildlife documentaries the sounds are all edited in but still
diegetic as the animals can still hear the noise that has been
created. The linguistic register is done to look good to my
target audience by using music that will suit them to draw them
in and make them buy the shoes.
After finishing my advert I had to pitch my idea to my teacher &
classmates, I had to show why they should buy my advert and
why it is better than my competitors. Firstly I got feedback
about the visual standard of my advert and most of it was it
that it is up to the professional standard, it is well edited and it
could be shown on TV. Secondly I got feedback about the sound
quality from my peers, the sound quality was good and up to a
professional standard but I needed to edit it better as the song,
Check Yo Self by Ice Cube has some swearing in it, and to
resolve this problem I would edit it or find an radio edit to use
as it has all the bad language cut out or Ill try to find an
instrumental for the song and use that to make it suitable for all
audiences, this topic also comes into appropriateness to the
audience. The comparison of my final piece and my original
idea are very similar, I wanted to show off the skate shoes as
much as I can, I think I had an idea of using different locations
to show that you can use them in different scenarios but I
wanted to stay with my original and just used one location. The
feedback I got for advert effectiveness was positive, they said
that the advert was effective and it highlights the purpose, it
makes the shoe look cool and it was clear from the very start of
the advert as at the start I have shown the Nike logo and the
music made the viewers want to keep watching. Technical
quality feedback was very positive, they said that my work had
fantastic camera & quality and had a very clear view of the
shoe by using a range of shots to do that, visual quality
feedback was good, they said that the quality was good and
that it had a good structure and that they thought it could be
shown on TV. To summarize my evaluation I will be talking
about what I could have done better, I believe to make my
advert better I should have included a shot at the end of my
advert that shows off the shoes and leave the idea in the mind
of the consumer.
Comparing my advert to another Nike ad, you can see the
difference, they have used extreme close ups of the shoes that
they are advertising, they use 2 skaters and they perform
amazing skills to amaze the viewer and think you can be as
good as them because of the shoes, they use a plain white
background to make the skaters and the shoes stand out more
than anything else, the music we both used in our separate
adverts were well suited to the style of the advert, the Nike SB
Skate Free advert has a very relaxed atmosphere about it and
made me want to buy the shoes.
