Finaldraftpoem

The poem describes a cargo ship at sea during World War II that is attacked by a German U-boat, with nothing but ocean as far as the eye can see. The ship is sunk by torpedo fire in the dark abyss of the ocean, killing three Brazilian crew members, though the rest of the crew is rescued. The attack highlights how the war impacted even neutral countries like Brazil and the brave souls who continued sailing despite the dangers.

Nothing But Sea

Nothing but sea as far as eyes can sea

Grey, sleek u-boats, sharks glide without notice
The war rages on, but brave souls do not flee
The Paran with crew sailing a glee
Ocean blue supposed free from abhorrence
Nothing but sea as far as eyes can see
The ignored warning wails of a banshee
Cry tell of doom in the forsaken abyss
The war rages on but brave souls do not flee
The shark attacks, stranding them oversea
Splintered wood fell as shots rained in darkness
Nothing but sea as far as eyes can see
Three Brazilian men dead, the rest all plea
The cargo ship sinks in bleak abjectness
The war rages on but brave souls do not flee
Survivors rescued from the wreck now free
Then Brazil fights versus German brashness
Nothing but sea as far as eyes can see
The war rages on but brave souls do not flee
