Multi-Camera Production Roles
You will be producing 3-4 interviews during your chat show. For each interview state who
will be doing which role. You must do EVERY role once during the show.

TASK 1: Define each of the following roles
Interviewer
To interview the quest by asking them questions and getting enough detail in the answers to make
the audience informed but making sure its not too much detail for the audience to lose interest.
Which part of the studio do they work in? (i.e. control room, studio floor)
Studio floor, sometimes on location of the interview.
What skills do they need to do their job well?
They need to be able to work well with new people and make them feel comfortable enough to open
fully with them within the first few minutes of meeting.
Director
To watch over the whole production make sure it all runs smoothly and correctly and if anything
doesnt go according to plan then they must make changes immediately.
Which part of the studio do they work in? (i.e. control room, studio floor)
All over but primarily in the Studio as that is where most of the corrections can be made
aswell as in the controls room occasionally.
What skills do they need to do their job well?
5 skills that a director needs are to be able to:
Take an organisation
Think strategically
Understand the environment they are working in
Be held accountable for any mistakes make as you are in charge.
Judge when to intervene and take action.

Know how to use a camera
Have a good understanding about how cameras works

To do this role you will need to:
Be a strong team player
Be willing to compromise
To think creatively on the spot to solve problems
To pay close attention to detail for long periods of time
Have a good knowledge of audio equipment, sound technology, the television
production process and camera and lighting techniques.
Excellent hearing, balance, agility and a good sense of timing.
Be patient, have self-discipline and be reliable.

Lighting Information:
Its quite dark in the studio but there
are a range of lights that can be used.
Solutions:
If more light is needed there may be a
portable light source brought in.
Sound Information:
Its very quiet but some people can
walk in, the sound of the doors closing
is very loud.
Solutions:
Lock doors during recording session in
order to prevent people from walking in
and disrupting everything.
Power Information
There are plenty of sockets to plug your
equipment into.
Solutions:
Possibly bring in battery powered
equipment in order to reduce the
amount of wires on the floor.
Hazards
Furniture can trip people over, theres
also the possibility of tripping on wires.
Solutions:
Tuck wires away from site and push
useless furniture to one side away from
the view of the camera.
