Facebook was created in 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg and fellow students at Harvard. It originally started as a platform for Harvard students to connect on campus but quickly expanded to other universities. By 2012, Facebook reached over 1 billion active monthly users worldwide. However, privacy has increasingly become an issue as many users share personal details and media without adjusting privacy settings. Studies show that a significant portion of teens and young adults share private information like phone numbers, locations, and videos publicly on their profiles without consideration of how it could impact them long-term. While Facebook collects extensive personal data on users through their activities and connections on the site, many are not aware of how to manage their privacy settings.
