CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT
AND LEARNING
Environent
Name of FS Student: Charlene Paringit
Course: BSED MATH Year & Section: 2-1
Resource Teacher: Mr. Arnel L. Poja Signature _____________________
Cooperating School: Malinta National High School
Your Target
At the end of this activity, you will gain competence in managing time space and
resources to provide an environment in which is appropriate to the learners and
conducive to learning.
Your Map
To reach your target, do the following tasks:
Observe a class.
Using a checklist, find out the evident
classroom components.
Describe how the classroom is
structured/designed to allow everyone to
participate in the learning activities.
Relate the data in your checklist to the
learners behaviour.
Reflect on how classroom management
affects learning.
Your Tools
Use the activity form provided for you to document your observations.
An Observation Guide for the Learners Characteristics
Read the following statements carefully. Then write your observation report on the
provided space.
1. As you observe the class, look into the characteristics of the learners. Note their ages.
2. How many boys are there? How many girls?
3. Focus on their behaviour. Are they already able to manage their own behaviour?
4. Can the learners already work independently?
5. Describe their span of attention.
6. Look into their listening skills and ability to concentrate.
Name of the School: Malinta National High School
Observed: 9-Timothy
Location of the School: St. Jude Subd. Malinta, Valenzuela City
Date of Visit: February 15, 2016
In their section, there were more girls than boys. I dont know the exact number but I
think there were around 40 students in their class, 26 girls and 14 boys I think. They are
around 14 16 years old. In some cases, they can manage their own behaviour but
most of the time, not. Even their teacher is inside their classroom, they still like to talk
a lot to their seatmates. Some of the students can work independently but some of them
were just relying on their classmates/friends. When it comes to their span of attention,
well they can be easily distracted at some times but not most of the time. They can also
concentrate on the lesson but note that it includes the chitchat thing as usual.
An Observation Guide for the CLASSROOM VISIT
Be guided by these questions as you do your observation of the classroom
management. It is also good to ask the teacher for additional information so you can
verify your observation. Write your notes below; and then organize your data in the table
that follows.
1. Are there areas in the classroom for specific purposes (storage of teaching
aids, books, students belongings, supplies, etc.)
2. Are there rules and procedures posted in the room?
3. Did the students participate in making the classroom rules?
4. What are the daily routines done by the teacher? (prayer, attendance,
assignment of monitors, warm-up activities, etc.) How are they done?
5. Is there a seating arrangement? What is the basis of this arrangement?
6. Observe the noise level in the classroom. How is this managed?
7. If a learner is not following instructions or is off-task, what does the teacher
do?
8. What does the teacher do to reinforce positive behaviours? (behaviour
strategies)
Observation notes:
A single room wasnt occupied by only one section. Two sections were sharing for one
room but not at the same time of course. Because of that, obviously there are no areas in
the classroom like storage of teaching aids. There were no rules and procedures posted in
the room. Maybe on their first meeting, the teacher and students already set their rules
and regulations. Their daily routines are checking the attendance, assignment, and
assessing what they learn from the previous lesson then going to another topic. I have no
seating arrangement observe because the students will sit on their preferred seats. Their
noise level is controllable WHEN THEIR TEACHER IS THERE. But when you are
observing them without their teacher, no way! You cant control their behaviour. When a
learner is not following istructions or os off-task, the teacher will give them quiz. To
enforce positive behaviors, the teacher gives them additional points on their quizzes if
they can solve a certain problem.
CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT MATRIX
Aspect of Classroom
Mangement
1. Specific Areas in the
Classroom
Description
Effect on the Learners
(to be filled up after you answer
the analysis question)
None
Observed by the students.
2. Classroom Rules
3. Classroom Procedures
The teacher will facilitate
this procedure.
4. Daily Routines
Starts with checking the
attendance.
None
5. Seating Arrangement
They need to find their own
resources like books.
Even though classroom
procedures are not posted
on the wall, they can
remember that by doing
everyday like cleaning the
room.
The learners will be guided
on what to do.
They will realize that their
presence in the room is
important.
They will sit on their
preferred seats.
They will be disciplined.
6. Handling
misbehaviour/off-task
behavior
7. Reinforcement of
Positive Behaviour
It depends according on
their misbehaviour.
Additional points on their
quizzes.
Learners will be reinforce to
participate more in the
discussion.
My Analysis
1. How did the classroom organization and routines affect the learners behaviour?
The students will be able to act on their age. Like what a grade 9 student should
be.
2. What should the teacher have in mind when she/he designs the classroom
organization and routines? What theories and principles should you have in mind?
The students should be involve in the designing of classroom organization and
routines.
3. Which behaviour strategies were effective in managing the behaviour of the
learners? In motivating students> Why were they effective?
This is where the positive reinforcement comes in. It is an effective way of managing the
behaviour of the learners and making them participate and be involve in class discussion.
My Reflections
1. Improve yourself organizing your classroom in the future. In what grade/year level
do you see yourself? What routines and procedures would you consider for this
level? Why?
I see myself as a freshmen teacher. What will be my routines and procedures? Of
course when I came inside the classroom, the room should be clean by the
students. Then start with a prayer, greeting, attendance, their interest and then the
topic.
2. Make a list of the rules you are likely to implement in this level. Why would you
choose these rules?
Proper Uniform
Proper haircut and colour
No answering in chorus
Be participative
Observe proper behaviour.
3. Should learners be involved in making the class rules? Why?
Yes! Because they are the one who will follow the rules in the classroom so they
should be involve.
