FINAL ALE REFLECTION

WITHIN THE
DISCIPLINE

Because of getting the opportunity to be a Residential Leader I am equipped with skills


that I would not have gained in any other position. In this job I have learned how to
connect with others, solve difficult problems, build relationships, and work on a clock
that is not one that I would have set for myself. That has been the most life changing,
lesson I have learned this far. Before becoming an RL my time was spent selfishly
doing what I wanted to do. However, now I have found ways to blend my schedule
with other individuals, while also developing a large sum of patience and flexibility
when situations did not fit in with what I had planned. I hope to be a missionary
someday, and when I am in that positon there will not be time for me to spend selfishly.
Because of this position I have gained valuable skills that will prepare me for when that
time comes.

BEYOND THE
DISIPLINE

While I have been a Residential Leader a lot has been going on with my family, and all
of these difficult circumstances I have found that the lessons that being an RL has
taught me the skills I needed to overcome these circumstances.

BEYOND
ACADEMICS

While I have been outside of the classroom I have learned lessons by being a part of
different organization on campus. While being a Tarleton Texan I have been involved
with the BSM serving on the Leadership team as a freshman group leader. And then
serving as the Speaker of the House for the Tarleton Student Government Association.

INTERCONNECTEDNESS

All of these things go together because in each event I have learned new skills and
gained knowledge that will help me for many years to come.

GLOBAL
AWARENESS

Before my experience in college as a general rule I was very prejudice against people
and what they believed. Not necessarily because what they thought was wrong, but
simply because they did not have the same opinion as me. This experience as an RL
and even just living in a residents hall before becoming an RL gave me a deeper
understanding of peoples beliefs. Now I have grown respect and value others thoughts
and opinions.

BROADER
IMPLICATIONS

After my experience as a Residential Leader I can see the importance of that value.
That by placing that value on what other people think you are ultimately giving them
the chance to express themselves in an environment that is open and non-judgmental.
