Student Portfolio Reflection Guide

This document is a student's reflection on assignments from a unit at Natomas Charter School Leading Edge Academy. The student selected three projects - an essay, Nelson Mandela timeline, and an activism project - and identified which of the school's pillars each one addressed. The pillars are global thinking, cultural diversity, tech savvy skills, partnership/leadership, and critical thinking. In their reflection, the student describes how the projects helped develop their academic skills and apply the pillars. They give specific examples to explain their self-assessment scores out of 5 on preparing, reflecting on, and planning to apply the skills learned.

Reflection Format: Use this form to brainstorm your ideas to revise your ePortfolio. Think about
the pillars youve met and how youve met them.
1. Describe how your academic skills have grown through the projects youve
completed. Think about your vocabulary, specific writing skills, or reading
abilities.
They have grown because I learned about activism and how those specific
people made a difference
I learned how to overcome hatred
My skills have grown because I learned from the podcasts that people are
different and appreciate them for who they are
I learned the definition of reconciliation
I learned that Math Mathabane Wanted to make sure there was no hate
2. Describe the Leading Edge Pillars you applied in the projects listed above.
Be specific.
a. Global:The essay, Mandela timeline, and Activism project fit in this pillar
because we were suppose to think inside and outside for the essay and for the timeline
we had t0 do some work at home outside our class and for the activism project we had

to make something that will encourage people to stop whitewashing.

b. Cultural:The project Mandela timeline fits in this pillar because Mandela
was a different culture, and the activism project fits in this pillar because we learned
that people from different culture are different skin colors and they whitewash them.
c. Tech Savvy:Mandela timeline fits in this pillar because we were new to
prezi and we didn't know how to use it some people knew
d. Partnership/Leadership:All of the projects use this pillar because someone
was a leader helping others to overcome hatred and and we were working together so
we understand and get more help if we needed more help.
e. Critical Thinking:All the projects fit in this pillar because we had to think
hard to make these project and get a good grade
3. Now go to your ePortfolio. Insert one project that you brainstormed above,
along with your short written reflection.
