Taiji and Taiji Quan

Tai chi originated from the Taoist concept of yin and yang and taiji, which refers to the constant balanced flow between opposing but complementary forces in the universe. The taiji symbol represents how taiji gives rise to the two opposing forces of yin and yang, which then become the four symbols and eight trigrams of the I Ching. Tai chi chuan is a Chinese martial art practiced for its health benefits and self-defense training that is based on Taoist principles of taiji. There are three main styles of tai chi chuan named after their founders - Yang, Wu and Chen style.

TAO(
The concept of Taiji came form Tao( ).
Tao( ) signifies the primordial essence or
fundamental nature of the Universe. In the
oldest surviving text of Taoism, the Tao Te
Ching, Laozi explains that Tao is not a
'name' for a 'thing' but the underlying
natural order of the Universe whose
ultimate essence is difficult to circumscribe
due to it being non conceptual yet evident
in one's being of aliveness.

Tuishou (response drills) ;
Sanshou (self defence techniques).

Three popular styles: Yang, Wu

There three styles are named by the surname names of
their creator.
While t'ai chi ch'uan is typified by some for its slow
movements, many t'ai chi have secondary forms with
faster pace. Some traditional schools of t'ai chi teach
partner exercises known as tuishou ("pushing hands"),
and martial applications of the taolu's (forms') postures.
