Worksheet: Planning an Itinerary, Part One

What Is an Itinerary?
Itineraries are detailed lists of the planned events or activities on a trip. ineraries help travelers
remember what they are going to do each day and where. Some people may plan their trip months in
advance, while others may be so busy they have a hard time remembering everything they are supposed
to do. In both cases, an itinerary can help. The itinerary informs travelers about what they will be doing
each day, such as going on a scenic helicopter ride over the Grand Canyon on one day, visiting the spa
the next day, and seeing a play the next. The itinerary may tell travelers how to get to the helicopter site,
spa, and performing arts center, and whether they have paid for each event or service. Itineraries can be
very general or very detailed, and they are often very helpful for travelers, especially travelers who sign
up for vacation packages. Creating itineraries is an important part of a travel agent's job.
‘Sample itineraries are often included as a part of vacation packages. This is a way for potential travelers
to imagine what their trip might look like before they sign up for i.
Itineraries may also include transportation arrangements, such as flight or rental car information, and
hotel information, such as check-in times. As you continue to work on this project, you will revise your
itinerary to include more information about your trip.

Planning the Itineraries
Your vacation package needs to include an itinerary. It should include a wide variety of activities,
including at least one activity from each of the five categories:
