Use this editing checklist when composing your draft.

Editing Check Yes/No

1. You did not punctuate your title either by underlining it or


enclosing it in quotations.

2. You indicated new paragraphs by indenting.

3. You have checked the spelling of every word in your


paper. I found no spelling errors.

4. Your paper is neatly-written and easy to read.

5. Your paper follows the conventions of written English.

6. You have organized your paper so that I can follow your


ideas.

These 6 above, combined with the following 9 characteristics below, will be my guide
while grading. If you meet all 15 items, you will receive a perfect score.

1. Your title is interesting and provocative.

2. Your opening (hook) immediately captured my interest.

3. As I read your paper, I felt a sense of exploration and


discovery.

4. Your paper incorporates your personal experiences and


how they relate to your name.

5. Your paper goes beyond factual and personal


information to fanciful, imaginative,and reflective
associations on that information.

6. Your paper is filled with images, pictures that appeal to


the writerʼs five senses.

7. Your paper flows; the ideas follow each other in a


comprehensible way.

8. When I finish reading your paper, I felt your paper was


finished.

9. Your paper is typed and presented in MLA format.
