Blood Collection Tube Color Guide 2

Plastic tube top colors and order of draw for blood collection is changing effective July 1, 2008. Light blue top tubes will continue to be used first for coagulation tests, followed by the numbered order which includes gold, lavender, red, royal blue, light green, dark green, white, pink, tan, and gray top tubes, with the bright green top tube now being used instead of the dark green top tube. It is important to follow the correct numbered order of draw and thoroughly mix all specimens by inversion 8-10 times.
