It is a herb growing upto 4m . Height. Its flowers are purple in colour. It grows at 800 1000 ft. in himalayas.
The root occurs in small pieces , 2- 18 mm in diameter . Externally greyish brown . Internally it shows a yellow porous radiating wood with brown bark . Fracture is short and smooth. The odour is characteristically aromatic .
The root stock appears in smallvertical and thick pieces, 5 -20 cm long and 1.0 to 3.5 in diameter. Externally yellowish to greyish brown in colour . Fracture is hard and fibrous.
