Ultrasonic Oil Level Sensors

The document discusses an electronic oil level sensor used in some engines that does not have a conventional dipstick. The sensor works using ultrasound pulses that are reflected by the boundary layer of oil and air, allowing the sensor to calculate the oil level based on the time difference between the pulse transmission and reception. It represents the measured oil level as a pulse-width modulated signal to a control unit for evaluation and monitoring of the engine's oil level.

Operating Principle
The oil level is calculated from the time difference between the transmission and the return of the pulse. A PWM
(Pulse Width Modulated) signal represents the oil level.
