Make a list of marketing communication messages you observe for a one hour
period of time. Rationalize any 5 of these messages.

11.05 am : Advertisement seen in Facebook

11.19 am : Received a Email from Amazon to buy DTH remote
11.58 am : Received a SMS from Google Pay
10.50 am : Received a SMS from insurance company
10.59 am : Received a SMS from Lens Kart

1.End of project sale. 15th and 16th December. Visit us at Sobha Silicon Oasis,
Sobha Heritage, Sobha Park Plaza.

This EDM, I have received for no reason because i am not looking to buy a property
with Sobha developers and i am not enquired with Sobha developer about their
properties. Once i have visited www.99acres.com to check the property and i have
given my number and email id. This EDM is not targeted the relevant audiences.
This EDM is just general marketing communication for the general audiences.

2. Received Email from Amazon : Hello Sebastian, are you looking for something
on our AV accessories store? If so, you might be interested in these items.

I wanted to buy videocon DTH HD remote because my existing remote is broken. I

called the customer care for the remote and they told me it will cost me Rs.350 and it
will take 2 days to deliver. So, i have cross checked the remote price in amazon, and
amazon mentioned “delivery will be within tomorrow morning”. But i didn’t buy the
remote. From next day morning i started receiving mails from amazon with different
price range.
This marketing communication is 99% exactly to the right customer. It will be the
very effective marketing communication.

Finally i bought one from amazon.

3. Received SMS :Exclusive offer for Google Pay users. Order meals at Rs.49 only!
And pay with Google pay to get maximum Rs.100 cash back.
This marketing communication is effective because the SMS says the meals starts
from Rs.49 which anybody can afford. The time i received the SMS at 11.58 exactly
1 hour before the lunch time. The time, price and offer was at the right time because
to check and finalize the meal may take 5-10 minutes and meal will arrive after 30
mins. I may not buy a meal but i may refer to my friend who did not bring his lunch.

Effective marketing communication.

4.Received SMS: Save Rs.60,000 for 15 years and get a life time pension of
Rs.85,000 pa & Lump Sum payout of 12.97 lakhs to your nominee. Visit
http://bit.ly/2QPsMG3 T&C A and get benefits of sec 80c

This marketing communication is for all working professionals who wants to save
tax. In organizations employees have to Submit the investment proof within approx
10.01.2019. As a employee if i am looking for investment options, surely i will visit
the website.

It will be effective marketing communication.

5. Received SMS : Rs.1000 credited in your Lens kart account expires in 2 days.

This is not much effective marketing communication & it urges me to buy within 2
days. I use spectacles and it is changeable after 1 year. I feel this SMS may not
relevant to me now but they have registered the brand name in my mind. In future if
i want to buy a spectacles i will visit their showrooms or websites.

Assignment 2_BC (15 Marks):

Recall a time when you gave a speech in front of a group. How did you feel? What
was your experience? What did you learn from your experience?

I was called to meet a group of friends (20) in a software company to give a

presentation about our real estate project. I have met him at their conference room,
all the arrangements was done before i reach. When i stood infront of them yeah i
was nervous, mouth dried up and i started stumbling because all the eyes were
looking me. Somehow i started giving presentation and questions started coming
from every corner of the room. Some of the real estate terminologies i used, people
could not understand and some of the questions i could not answer.

Learnt from experience:

1. Understand the audience (like, educational , field of experience) because you can
prepare well like terminology etc.
2. Put yourself in the audience shoes and look in to all the possibilities of questions
can come from the audience & prepare for it
3. As my senior advised that “practice your presentation infront of the mirror”.
4. Instead of real estate terminologies, i have started using simple language where
everybody can understand.

If you were asked to get the attention of your peers, what encoding & key message
would you choose and why?

To get the attention of peers, i will use the picture of Mars and key message will be
save our earth. The message will be, if we are polluting air, water and cutting down
the trees, our planet will becomes like mars (desert).
Does the communicator have a responsibility to the audience? And, does the
audience have a responsibility to the speaker? Why or why not?

Yes. The communicator have responsibility to his audience because the

communicator must understand his audience and he should always attract the
audienence attention. The communicator has to deliver a content which the
audiences are interested in.

Yes. The audience also have the equal responsibility to the communicator. If
audiences are not responding his questions or speech the communicator will loose
his interest. If the audiences are responding to the speech, the communicator may
start delivering his/her speech based on audiences interest.

Why not?

If the response is not coming from both side, i don't think so the presentation will be
understood by both the parties. The communicator also ask some questions or some
task to the audience to make sure his/her audiences are understanding his speech.
The audiences also should reply to the question or task asked by the communicator.

Recall one time you felt offended or insulted in a business conversation. What
contributed to your perception?

Answer : When I felt offended in a business meeting because of the inappropriate

answer to the audience, It made me to prepare even more better on my ideas which I
am suppose to deliver. It also teaches me that I should not go into attack or argument
mode rather than this I should respond softly and politely, I should not take insult
personally in spite of this I should work more on my ideas and presentation which
will not give them a chance to insult or to point out once again
