STATCOM Model for Integration of Wind Turbine to Grid
Abstract:
Stability of the system disturbed so much when the power produced by the wind turbine is
added in the system. This is due to the renewable resources because all renewable resources
have indeterminate nature. The major source of renewable energy is wind energy because
power system get much power form wind power plants than other renewable resources. To
maintain the quality of wind turbine power IEC-61400 (International Electro-technical
Commission) defines the specific standard which helps to maintain the stability of the system.
The issues of power quality harmonics, frequency, voltage sag and swell, flicker, active and
reactive power must considered when integration of renewable power energy is discussed.
Several FACTS devices (flexible AC transmission system) are used for the system restoration.
In this document, a STATCOM (static compensator) model is proposed to improve power
Quality in the case of supply of electricity generated by the wind turbine to the grid. The
STATCOM is connected in an intermediate point between a wind turbine and a network with
dual-feed induction generator with accumulation Option. The STATCOM model is designed and
simulated by MATLAB Simulink. The results of the simulation. Indicates that the bus voltage
initially starts to decrease from the nominal value of 1 pu and then stabilizes a 1 pu thanks to
the addition of STACOM in the designed system.
