When does EN 1090-1 apply?
The product is covered by the scope of EN 1090-
1:2009+A1:2011,
The product is a structural construction product within
the meaning of the Construction Products Regulation
which means:
the product is intended to be incorporated in a
permanent manner in construction works (buildings or
civil engineering works), and
the product has a structural function in relation to the
construction work (i.e. its failure will affect the
satisfaction of Basic Work Requirement 1.)
The product is not covered by a dedicated European
product specification.

Execution Classes
• I.S. EN 1090-2: 2008 Sets out four execution
classes.
1. EXC1 – e.g. Agricultural Buildings
2. EXC2 – e.g. Residential or Commercial Buildings
3. EXC3 – e.g. Bridges
4. EXC4 – e.g. Special Structures (long span bridges)
Customer specifies the execution class, if not
specified then EXC2 shall be applied. (EN1090-2 cl. 4.1.2)

Structural Design
In the case where structural design is
carried by the manufacturer and design
characteristics are declared as part of CE
Marking, the manufacturer needs to
establish procedures to control and
verify compliance with the design brief,
for checking calculations and for
ensuring the competence of individuals
responsible for the design.

Product Evaluation
Manufacturer shall establish
procedures to ensure that
declared values and classes
of all the characteristics are
maintained.
13 April 24, 2015
Personnel
The manufacturer shall
document the
responsibility, authority
and relationship between
personnel that manage
perform and verify work
affecting the characteristics
of the manufactured
product. Including sub-
contractors.

Equipment
All weighing, measuring
and testing equipment that
may have an influence on the
characteristics of the steel or
aluminium frames/members
must be calibrated,
regularly maintained and
inspected.
15 April 24, 2015
Purchasing
The manufacturer shall
