Chino Hills High School Women’s Varsity

Soccer
2018/2019 Season Plan
Coach: Olivia Seddon
Assistant Coach: Avery Smith

I will be coaching the Chino Hills High School varsity soccer team this season. I am
taking over this Division I program and plan to develop these players to their highest potential.
This program is a high-level program for that of a high school team which gives me more room
to focus on character and team building. I believe building their character as well as bonding the
team together will not only produce better results but make them better people out in the real
world. As a coach my main priority is development. Although this plan is devised to take us to
the level of high competition, my main goal is to develop them in to better soccer players. I also
scheduled seasonal meetings with my girls in order to get feedback from them as well as let them
know how they are doing and things they can improve on. These individual meetings give both
the players and I the chance to gain a trusting relationship off the field and have a mutual
understanding, which I feel is very important. This plan reflects my desire for hard work and
dedication to the sport but also the need for fun. This is a high school level team and so it should
be fun to come to practice and learn. I try and change up the drills and activities in order to
improve my players not bore them. I want them to have a good experience on my team and learn
from me in a positive environment. My team is my family and I will do whatever I can to help
my girls reach their full potential.
Due to my team being a high level high school team I do want to take time going over the
basics but not too much time. I really want to focus on gearing my players toward a possession
style of play. It takes a lot of hard work and patience which I value in my own philosophy. I
think the stronger we are at keeping the ball the easier it will be to devise plays and strategy
against the other team because we won’t have to chase the ball. Having a strong defense and
offense is important this season because I’m coaching them through a new formation. With that
being said, having good communication and effort will help with the transition and allow for a
stone wall defense and a tricky offense. One of my long term goals for this team is to attack from
all areas of the field and to teach my players no matter their position they can make an impact.
With this goal, I want our players to be more versatile with their actions. With team cohesion
comes trust and I want my players to play for each other. I want the defenders making runs up
the sidelines because they want to help their offense. I want to teach my offense to make those
80 yard recovery sprints to play defense when their defense is in trouble. Gaining perspective of
other positions will help boost our team moral and help us be successful. As the coach I will also
help teach the girls to not only shoot but finish the ball with purpose. Working on accuracy in
shooting and passing will develop the girls into stronger over all players. Lastly, I want the girls
to have fun. Some players take the sport more seriously than others, so having a good balance of
fun to hard work is a huge goal for the season. Mixing in hard workouts with fun team bonding
activities will help these girls have a successful season on and off the field.
