REMEMBER
It 7:30a.m. and you're waiting for the bu on your fir t half day of
kindergarten. Thi i ju t the begining of time to remember. What about that trange
kid that ate pa te in art cla ? Do you remember hi or her name? Our memories
are different than the memorie of kid now day .
What about sixth grade graduation and baring locker with your friend
in junior high? Once again times have changed there i no longer a ixth grade
graduation and junior high ha changed to middle chool.
In high chool you develop many memorie . They range from your first
date to getting your driver licen e. Between cla e , practice , meetings, games,
and part time job , we all have lot of time to remember.

All tudent going into and out of the Buffalo Prairie
Middle School have experienced change. There were
many change to experience and remember. Student
found new choice from port , to participating in
tudent council band, or other chool activitie . Many
enjoyed their new lunch option where they could
elect the chool hot lunch or nack bar, and even a
choollunch charge card. Per onallocker and block

experienced. With fi e returning lettermen and a
new coach, Buffalo wa aiming high. Thi year'

Highlight of the ea on were winning both the

Imagine walking out onto the gym floor in front of everyone in

the whole school. It's not a easy thing for many students to do,
but every cheerleader must, in order to show their spirit and
support for the Bison teams. Every year the cheerleaders go to
SMSU for camp. They have to get up before 7:00 a.m. to go to
classes. The classes consist of cheer and chant class, jump
class, stunts, and dance class. Ribbons are given to each squad
for their performances. Blue ribbons are superior, red is
excellent, and white is outstanding. The varsity squad took home
six blue ribbons and a spirit stick this year. Seniors Christa Cook
and Rebecca Hicks were nominated for the All American
Cheerleader team. The cheerleaders were true and dedicated
fans of the Buffalo Bison. This year was a very exciting year for
the cheerleaders. The fans really got involved and helped spread
spirit. Thanks for all your support Buffalo High School fans!!!

What time is it? Game time! This was commonly heard at the beginning of
mo t varsity games this 1996-1997 basketball ea on.
With no returning senior and only two returning letter winner , the var ity
team had a tough road to travel. " It wa a tough eason, but we had one goal in
mind, which was to bring home hardware, and we did! " aid junior Adrienne
Boulware about winning third place at the Bolivar Tournament.
Although this was a young team, they improved greatly throughout the
sea on and had fun doing it. Rhonda Rice, ophomore, had thi to ay about the
eason, "I think we learned a lot a a team thi year. Since we'll all be back next
year, hopefully, our team unity will come back with u !"

"To be the man, you have to beat the man."

That was the team motto of the baseball team this
year. Coach Shewmaker had this to say about the
season, "So far we've had an okay year. We 've lost
a couple games we should have won, but we 're
winning our fair share. Our expectations are to be
competetive in every ball game. In most games
there's always an opportunity to break through."
Junior Randyn Saner summed up the season by
saying, "We may not become state champs, but we
try our hardest to beat the man."

Little did anyone realize that, in less than two years, the Buffalo
school system would go from having no organized golf team to
establishing one of the most respected teams in the Central Ozark
Conference. When the Bison golfers took to the "links" this year
they had no idea what to expect from this year's team. The team
tarted off the year with a first place win in the Ozark Tigers
Invitational defeating all fifteen teams in the meet. They held a
fundraiser to raise money for an overnight golf trip to play in the
William Jewell Invitational in Liberty, Missouri. The team
brought home another first place trophy defeating all thirty
teams in the tournament. The 1997 squad was composed of
member from all of the classes including strong play from two
seniors and three underclassmen. Posting the most wins out of
any sport at Buffalo High School last year, the 1997 Bison Golf
Team enjoyed great success. Destined for bigger and better things,
organized golf at Buffalo High School will continue to grow with
a bright future for this program.

The new addition of the dance team was quite
a succes . It arrived at a name by allowing students
to submit suggestions and then vote on them.

There were two juniors, two sophomores, and eight
freshmen.
They performed at girls and boys home
basketball games and several of the pep assemblies.
At the Chri tmas assembly they performed the
" Santa" dance which was a favorite among the
students. They were a great addition to the half time
entertainment at BHS.

 Time to Remeber ...
Future Homemakers
The Buffalo FHNHERO had 45 members for the 1996-1997 school year. Region 10
activities began in September with an officer workshop at Reeds Spring. Regional officers
conducted the workshop to train chapter officers. In October a regional meeting was held in
Bolivar. The motivational speaker gave several challenges to his audience of 1,400 area
members. For a second year through "Children International", the chapter is continuing to
support a child named Maria. Maria lives in Guatemala and mailings are received two or
three times a year. Bi-monthly club activities are planned throughout the year. FHA
members and FFA members had a combined trip to the Haunted Houses in October, a
Christmas party in December, and an ice skating trip in the spring. Kami Freeman and
Amanda Payne recently attended an A+ Conference at Osage Beach. Amanda commented
that she learned more about herself, it was an exciting experience and she learned some
ways to cope with stress. FHNHERO is an intregrated part of the Family and Consumer
Sciences curriculum which helps students prepare themselves for employment and
assuming responsibilities of adulthood.

Thursday mornings came early for many people this

year. But the call for FELLOWSHIP with other students
and doughnuts overcame the urge for sleep.
OF all the activities this group participated in the Adopt-
a-family and food drive are just a few.
FCA's a time for CHRISTIANS to get together and
voice their feelings about school and troubles that they are
facing. Not just ATHLETES come to meetings. Any
student who needs a shoulder to lean on can come, and that
includes just about everyone.

Senioritis
Strikes Back
Despite the senioritis many felt upon returning to
school, students made the most out of their year by
hanging out with friend and trying to endure the
hours of tedious studying. At the beginning of the
school year, the seniors expected nothing more than
fun, laid-back classes and worry-free days for their
final year in high school. Then November arrived, and
seniors realized that college, tech school, and work was Dennis Burns
approaching sooner than they thought. Last minute
ACT's, novel-length applications, personal essays and
teacher recommendations ate away at their leisure. It
was time to decide their future plans in what seemed
like an inadequate amount of time.
The members of the Senior class shared a number
of concerns about having to adjust to a completely
different atmosphere after high school. Along with the
excitement of graduation came the stress of future
plans.

Whether a friendship began back in elementary
school, or even within the Ia t few years, every
senior realized that graduating high school meant
splitting up with your closest friends and going
seperate ways. Many senior were committed to Melissa Manary Dorothy Manning
keeping close relations with friends, but losing
touch over the years became inevitable. Moving
away, meeting new people, and entering the real
world contributed to the loss of communication.
During school, friendship was often taken for
granted. However, it was the time spent with
friends that really touched their lives. All students
created a lifetime of memories, but it was the
friendship they shared that left the lasting
impression, in both their hearts and minds. Their
times will never be forgotten, and the memories
