The Lion King Poster Project

***THIS IS AN INDIVIDUAL ASSIGNMENT***

To be eligible for extra credit for The Lion King you must complete a poster that
depicts major ecological concepts that are embedded into the story line of the
movie. Your poster must show thoroughness, thoughtfulness, and accuracy in
order to be considered for extra credit. It must be evident that you spent quality
time to complete the poster. All descriptions must be thoroughly written and
explained.

Part 1: Circle of Life

Mufasa explains to Simba that they and all the animals of Pride Rock are
connected in the “Great Circle of Life.”
 DRAW a diagram that explains how nitrogen and carbon is cycled in the Pride
Rock ecosystem. Please give specific examples of organisms that play a role.
(i.e. do not just write “decomposers.” You should give specific examples of
decomposers and explain their role.)
 EXPLAIN how all organisms are connected in the nutrient cycles. (Explain
what happens at every stage of the cycle)

Part 2: Unbalanced Ecosystems

When Scar took over Pride Rock, he allowed the hyenas to live side by side with
lions. In time Pride Rock became desolate and barren.
 ILLUSTRATE how Scar’s method or ruling disrupted the food chain.
 EXPLAIN why Scar’s method caused the ecosystem to collapse.

Part 3: Ecological Succession

When Simba returns to Pride Rock and defeats Scar, the ecosystem is once again
balanced. This shows ecological succession.
 STATE whether this is an example of primary or secondary succession.
 EXPLAIN why it is either primary or secondary succession.
 EXPLAIN the stages in which ecological succession was likely to have
occurred when Simba returned.
