Oceanic HW425: Enhanced Temperature Subsea Production Control Fluid

Oceanic HW443 is a new subsea control fluid formulated for use at temperatures up to 140°C. It has vapor phase corrosion protection and is more compatible with seawater than other fluids. Oceanic HW443 has been tested in major subsea components and found to be fully compatible. It has excellent lubrication and protects metals against corrosion through both its liquid and vapor phases. Most common seal and hose lining materials are compatible, including nitrile, Buna, PTFE, silicone and Viton. Oceanic HW443 has been tested at 140°C with 2% seawater and shown to be stable without deposits or sludge formation.

Oceanic HW425

Enhanced Temperature Subsea Production Control Fluid

Oceanic HW 443 with 25% glycol is a new member to the Oceanic range of water based subsea control
hydraulic fluids. It has been formulated for use at temperatures upto 140°C. It has vapour phase
corrosion protection as well as liquid protection, contains a fluorescene dye and is more compatible with
seawater than any other fluid currently on the market.

Typical Physical Properties

Appearance Yellow Liquid

Viscosity @ 40 Deg.C 1.5c/s

20 Deg.C 2.90c/s
0 Deg.C 5.9.0c/s
-20 Deg.C Semi-solid
-40 Deg.C Solid

Pour Point -15 Deg.C

pH 9.3

Temperature Limitation -25 to over 135 deg.C.

Specific Gravity 1.038

Note : The properties stated in this document are typical for the product, but do not constitute a
specification.

Oceanic HW443 has been tested in all major components of subsea control systems and has been
found to be fully compatible.

Lubrication and Corrosion Performance

Oceanic HW 443 has an excellent lubrication package designed to prevent wear on rubbing boundary
surfaces. All metals commonly used in offshore hydraulic equipment will be well protected against
corrosion when immersed in Oceanic HW 443. In addition to the liquid phase corrosion inhibition
properties, Oceanic HW 443 also protects metals against corrosion when in contact with air with a
vapour phase corrosion inhibitor (VPI). This VPI is most important during storage or static periods.

Elastomer Compatibility

Most types of common seal materials are compatible with Oceanic HW 443. Seal types that are
compatible are Nitrile, Buna, PTFE, Silicone and Viton. Materials that are not advisable are composite
seals and some types of polyurethane (this material should be checked for compatibility with
water/glycol). To be certain on other seal types it is best to carry out checks.

Stability

Oceanic HW 443 has been tested to 140 Deg.C. with 2% seawater and has been found to be perfectly
stable, with no evidence of solid deposits or sludge formation.

Compatibility with Control Fluids

Oceanic HW 443 is compatible with most other water based control fluids including the rest of the
Oceanic HW range.

Compatibility with Hose Lining Materials

Oceanic HW 443 is based on similar additive technology used in the rest of the Oceanic HW range of
fluids and is compatible with most lining materials. Hose materials tested are Nylon 11 (methanol
washed) and Hytrel 6356 and 7248. To be certain with other materials it is best to carry out checks.

Fluid Cleanliness

Because the cleanliness requirements offshore are becoming more and more stringent Oceanic HW
443 is filled into clean virgin drums at NAS 1638 class 6 or better before being despatched.

Discharge into Marine Environments

Oceanic HW 443 has been fully tested following the PARCOM guidelines and has bees assessed under
the Chemical Notification Scheme, the product has receive a Category E listing. This will mean that
notification is not required provided that the rate of usage does not exceed 1000 tonnes per installation
per year.
