Voice-over/Questions B-Roll/Footage
Introduction:
While other children have been in school, ▪ Blank screen
I’ve been at home. I’ve still had the ▪ B-roll of me with revision books,
education I needed, even though I’ve never laptop (learning)
been in the system. And all I’ve known is
the structure of a carefree system with an
organised schedule.

But what is home education? Why is it
rising in popularity in the UK? And why is ▪ Title slates

I will be finding out the answers to all the


questions and help further your knowledge ▪
on home education.
Information:
As an ex-home-educators, I know that ▪ B-roll of me doing work/home
homeschooling now is very different to movie

Home educators definitely get the best out ▪ B-roll of homeschoolers socialising
of socialising and interacting with different (in different environments)
people. We had the opportunity to choose
who we mixed with, unlike school where
you are put into classrooms and groups
that you may not fit into.

In 2016 to 2017, there were over 45 ▪ Figures


thousand students that were being home-
educated in the UK. And over 29 thousand

of those home educators were registered


with their local authorities. These numbers
aren’t to be confused with the US, topping
up to 1.5 million home-educators in 2010
to 2011.

There’s a huge dynamic to home-education


vs school. They are two completely ▪ Homeschool vs School (video or

There are some countries where home- ▪ Countries where it’s illegal (flags)
education is illegal, but they make up for
that by having a better education system.
Countries like Germany, Sweden, Denmark,
Finland, and there are many more.

because they want a religious approach. ▪ Special needs/Learning difficulties
While others because their child/children symptoms and b-roll of children and
have special needs or learning difficulties, books
the parent can then have 1-2-1s with them
and the child/children can get the help that
they need.

that does not. They each have their own
approach, so let’s see what they have to

found out why these specific families

Nathan Fields, who is a TEACH manager for
a Christian curriculum.

Outro:
After talking to Joelle, Sophia and Nathan, I
understand why they have chosen this
path. But home education isn’t the only
option, there are other alternatives.

There have been debates on whether


parents have the right to take their child
out of school, if it’s in the best interest of
the child the parent should have that
choice.
