"PSYCH-K: The Missing Peace In Your Life," is written by Robert M. Williams, M.A.
who felt his
calling to become a Psychotherapist in 1983 and opened his own practice in 1996. Over the years, Mr.
Williams studied all kinds of therapy techniques such as Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP),
hypnosis, Reiki, etc.. He was in search of the best way to counsel his patients and felt that most therapy
techniques did nothing but scratch the surface. One day while preparing flyers for a workshop, he got
an idea about how to speak directly to the subconscious mind. This idea was a set of statements called
the “Core Belief Balance,” which was the beginning of PSYCH-K (pronounced: sigh-k).
What Is Psych-K and How Does It Work?
PSYCH-K is short for “Psychological Kinesiology." It is a method of therapy used to access negative
beliefs and/or fears in the subconscious mind in order to change or heal them.
Example 1. If you were taught as a child that helping others is fulfilling and rewarding, then you will
more-than-likely continue to be a person that aids others in adulthood.
Example 2. If you watched your father physically abuse your mother when you were growing up,
there’s a high chance that you will do the same to your significant other as an adult.
As you can see, subconscious beliefs can be positive or negative depending on the environments and
people you were raised around. Unfortunately, the roots of some problems are not as easily identified as
the learned physical abuse in Example 2. Sometimes, there will be a hidden subconscious belief that
causes you major anxiety, panic attacks and/or depression. For example, let’s say that your father’s job
relocated your family multiple times a year. You were constantly losing friends and having your home
ripped out from under you when you were a child. This is something that may lead to a fear of not
feeling safe or secure. It could also affect how comfortable you feel in developing relationships and
building trust with others. The PSYCH-K process can help locate this issue in your subconscious mind
and heal it during therapy.

PSYCH-K Versus Traditional Therapy
Mr. Williams points out that traditional therapy deals with issues using various techniques such as
affirmations, Behavioral Cognitive Therapy, etc.. He states that these types of therapy just counsel to
the conscious mind which often has little effect on the patient. PSYCH-K is designed to reach the
subconscious mind so that negative (or false) beliefs can be reprogrammed or replaced with positive
ones, and fears can be overcome.
What Can PSYCH-K Treat?
In my opinion, PSYCH-K can be used to treat various mental illnesses, specifically Anxiety,
Depression, OCD and Panic Disorder. It can also be used to treat stress and addictions such as food
addiction or compulsive shopping. Lastly, if you just want to achieve a better quality of life, I believe
that you can also benefit from the PSYCH-K method.
My Personal Thoughts
I think "PSYCH-K: The Missing Peace In Your Life,"is a great book for anyone struggling with any of
the four mental illnesses I listed previously. It clearly lays out the foundation of what PSYCH-K is and
how it works to reprogram the subconscious mind.
I personally have struggled with anxiety all of my life and this book shed some light on how and why
my subconscious mind is programmed the way it is. I've been able to look back at certain events in my
childhood and teenage years and see how these things made me the person I am today.
The book itself is not a self-help book and you will not get any specifics on how to perform PSYCH-K
on yourself. PSYCH-K is a method that's used in addition to traditional therapy and is to be performed
