Background Information:
These students are male and females in the ages between 18 which is why this lesson will help
and test the students to use their visual learning and memorization all at the same time to help
them with their speech. The students will be allowed to work together out loud so they can get
comfortable with their pronunciation and speech keeping in mind that the students come from
different regions, states, or countries. Using animals help the students to keep entertained,
focused, and give them some enthusiasm for learning. Many students are very shy when
learning Engilsh as their second language, which is why it is always important for your students
to feel comfortable not just with the teacher themselves but with the
environment that is in the classroom. When the students participate in the class and the
activities it helps them to start gaining confidence in their pronunciation and comprehension,
which is a great achievement because now the students will practice the language a lot more.
Instructional Strategy (15 minutes):
1. Students will be provided with images (on separate handouts) of animals and they will
have to identify each animal according to its name, what they consume and they will
have to provide their habitat ex. Forest, savannas, mountains etc.
2. Ask the students to work together in pairs and each pair will take one animal that is
given to them by the teacher. These animals will all be land animals.
3. The students will work together to identify the environment/habitat, location, food,
behavior of the assigned animals.
4. As the students work together, the teacher is walking around answering questions,
asking questions to the students, and supporting their work.
5. When the students have finished identifying the details about their animals, the teacher
will work with the whole class to hear what the students did.
Example 1. Name: Donkey
Consumes(eats): Hay
Habitats(lives): Desert
6. The teacher should offer support to the students through verbal praise and reinforcement
of learning.
