Appendix
Reading 1
Acts 2:1-11 (NRSV)
When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. And suddenly from
heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind, and it filled the entire house where
they were sitting. Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them, and a tongue rested on
each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages,
as the Spirit gave them ability.
Now there were devout Jews from every nation under heaven living in Jerusalem. And at this
sound the crowd gathered and was bewildered, because each one heard them speaking in the
native language of each. Amazed and astonished, they asked, “Are not all these who are
speaking Galileans? And how is it that we hear, each of us, in our own native language?
Parthians, Medes, Elamites, and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus
and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya belonging to Cyrene, and
visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabs—in our own languages we
hear them speaking about God’s deeds of power.”
Reading 2
1 Corinthians 12:3-7,12-13 (NRSV)
Therefore I want you to understand that no one speaking by the Spirit of God ever says “Let
Jesus be cursed!” and no one can say “Jesus is Lord” except by the Holy Spirit. Now there are
varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of services, but the same Lord; and
there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who activates all of them in everyone. To
each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.
For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though
many, are one body, so it is with Christ. For in the one Spirit we were all baptized into one
body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and we were all made to drink of one Spirit.
Entrance Hymn
                                 Welcome To All!
                                 By Andrew Chinn
Welcome to all, welcomed as Christ!
Listen and attend with the ear of your heart
                          Many paths but one journey,
                             we work, love and pray
Open hands, open hearts, This is our way!
To pray we are called, to be one with our God
May our hands join in prayer, together as one
In peace, in stillness, in the singing of hearts
Guided in prayer, one body we are
To love we are called, to love just like Christ
May our hands reach out all through our lives
Be the hands of Jesus, be the face of God
May our hearts beat as one, one in God’s love
To work we are called, in the Spirit of God
May our hands work together, be hope for the world
with Christ as our guide we walk in God’s way
To work in God’s love, all our lives all our days

Our lives that we bring, and offer now to You

                           We Are God’s Hands
                              By Andrew Chinn
We are God’s hands, we are God’s eyes
We are the love, the heart of Christ
Oh Spirit move, our hearts and minds
That we may see, peace in our time
May our hands reach out to those
Who’ve come across our seas to find a home
May we reach out across the seas
To touch the poor, be God’s mercy
May we see with open eyes
And comfort those with lonely lives
Look all around and see the need
With eyes of hope, be God’s mercy
May our hearts be the love of God
Bring the love of Christ to one and all
May our love sow seeds of peace
And may our hearts, be God’s Mercy
We are God’s hands, we are God’s eyes
We are the love, the heart of Christ
Oh Spirit move, our hearts and minds

We’ve gathered in your name Showing love for all to see
Our hearts won’t be the same Walk by faith so we can be
We’ve heard your Word The hands and feet of Jesus,
A fire starts A witness in His name.
It’s time for us to go. Bringing peace to every heart
United hand in hand Giving hope for a new start
Together we will stand The hands and feet of Jesus,
One people, one body, A witness in His name.
      Called to change the world…
                                                           Just like Jesus sent them
Showing love for all to see Out so long ago
Walk by faith so we can be Go into the world and tell
The hands and feet of Jesus, The Good News.
        A witness in His name.
Showing love for all to see
     Bringing peace to every heart
Walk by faith so we can be
Giving hope for a new start
The hands and feet of Jesus,
The hands and feet of Jesus,
                                                            A witness in His name.
        A witness in His name.

To every land we’ll go Giving hope for a new start
To let all people know The hands and feet of Jesus,
God’s love is there A witness in His name.
             For everyone
        Just open up your heart
        The Spirit guides the way
       With courage for each day
         One people, one body,
      Called to change the world…
              Example Complete Eucharistic Celebration
Theme
With the celebration of Confirmation each person is initiated more completely into
the Church, the community of Jesus’ disciples.
Liturgy of the Word
First Reading: Acts 2:1-4 (the coming of the Spirit)
Response: Tell the good news that God has saved us.
                                    Psalm 96:1-3.
       Gospel Acclamation: Alleluia, Alleluia!
“The Holy Spirit will come and reveal the Truth.”
                                    Alleluia!
Gospel: John 16:5-7 (John departs and sends the Holy Spirit).
Homily Notes
Talk about the idea of belonging to a group or a team. Once you belong yu try
to do what the team does and you try to do it well.
Confirmation means receiving the Holy Spirit as the sign that we belong to the
Church, the group of Jesus’ disciples. Now that we belong more fully we try hard
to do what the Church does: tell the Good News that God loves us, cares for us
        and saves us.
General Intercessions
   1. May those who are being Confirmed grow in their love for God and the Church.
Let us pray to the Lord.
   2. May all Christians live in the Good News of Jesus. Let us pray to the Lord.
Notes on the Celebration
I may be possible to link this celebration with Baptism by lighting the Paschal
Candle. This will show that both are sacraments of initiation; it will also recall the
tongues of fire that characterised the Pentecost event described in the first
        reading.
Confirmation is one of the sacraments of Christian Initiation and can be linked to
Baptism by the use of the Sprinkling Rite.
A banner could be prepared showing a tree with the various fruits of the Spirit on
        it.
Penitential Rite
Lord Jesus you sent the Holy Spirit at Pentecost.
Lord, have mercy.
Lord Jesus, you gather your people together in the Church.

Lord, have mercy.

Let us pray.
Lord, send your Holy Spirit to make us witnesses before the world to the Good News
