EVELYN HONE GREEN GATE
Green gate also known by many as G-gate is a complex at Evelyn Hone College where
food, alcohol and many other products are sold. Formerly known as Fajema in recent
years, has shown a lot of development as it is now called by the Green gate. G-gate has
a grocery store where students go to buy their groceries, it also accommodates a
restaurant where students refresh themselves and club which opens after 14.
Evelyn hone students as well as some G-gate workers were asked to give their views
about the importance and challenges of G-gate.
Mr. Moses who is one of the cashier and supervisor of G-gate said "G-gate is important
to Evelyn because it caters food for a majority of students and even people outside the
Evelyn hone campus". Mr. Moses also said" It becomes very challenging controlling
students when they are drunk, as they start breaking bottles which distracts other
customers".
Mwansa a first year Physiotherapy student said "In terms of entertainment and food
yes G-gate is important because some of us can't afford eating at levy because food is
expensive there and it has a club and we get to have shows on weekends were Zambian
artist perform and the tickets are affordable”. However Mwansa also said "It gets
dangerous at night as some of our fellow students get violent when they are drunk".
But Shaw a second year environmental student said "G-gate is of importance to Evelyn
hone because of Entertainment, but Hygiene levels at night are very bad because people
throw litter anywhere". Shaw also said “I don't like the food sometimes cause it tastes
weird and bad".
