Police Officer Every year, an estimated 9,000 people are killed
in drink driving related accidents, both
pedestrians and drivers. In 2016 alone, 9,040
people were killed in incidents involving drink
driving and that statistic has not decreased
since 2016.
Two weeks ago, there was an incident including 6
victims and only one of those victims survived.
This one survivor suffered severe body pain and
was suffering from anxiety and depression for
over a week.
Here is a radio play made for awareness in anti -
drink driving. It includes a young child’s thoughts
after being injured in a car accident, involving
drink driving. The themes might be disturbing to
young audiences so if you are easily offended
then we recommend listening to any of the other
podcasts online.

Police Officer The death of this mothers baby would have stuck
with her for the rest of her life and the baby was
not able to see her distant future. It it hard to let
go of an event like this because it’s not the
victim's fault at all.
Drink driving is dangerous because the driver
loses a lot of control over the wheel. People
outside the car have no control over the driver.
The penalty for drink driving deaths are
unforgiving and very strict. It can be a life ruining
event so don’t get yourself into a mess in the first
place. The amount of lives you take from a drink
driving incident does not contribute to how you
will be punished and how you will feel after. You
may even be forbidden to drive again for the rest
of your life. Be mindful of who’s driving and when
you go drinking. Even if there is no damage
done, you will still be punished and you cannot
hide the evidence of drinking. You will always be
found out. It’s as simple as that.
Drink driving can lead to drowning. There have
been accidents involving drunk drivers driving
into lakes and large rivers and they don’t escape
in time. Escaping from a submerged car is
possible but it has to be done at an efficient
speed.
As well as drivers driving into water, driving into
other cars and not steering properly are causes
of even bigger accidents that lead to more
deaths, injuries and destructions.
The best way to avoid drink driving accidents is
to simply not drink then drive. If your going out
with friends and you need to drive home, have a
designated driver, someone who won’t drink any
alcohol so they can safely drive without any risks
taken.
On one night, a group of friends went out to their
favourite pub to drink, every one of them. They
were happy, comfortable and warm.
FX Friends laughing and chatting.
Police Officer The catch? They had to drive home, but all of
them we’re drunk. They thought it wouldn’t be too
dangerous to drive drunk if they pick the least
drunk to drive. By one of them putting their foot
on the pedal, they were all about to face some
serious consequences.
FX Car starts driving.
FX Car breaks.
FX Loud crash between multiple cars.
FX Car horns.
Police Officer As you can hear, multiple of cars just collided
because a single car full of drunk friends steered
of their lane. That’s what drink driving does. It is
a mass murderer. The driver was the only one to
survive but was also the only one to go to jail.
Many parents were devastated as you would
imagine.
The best way to avoid drink driving accidents is

If everyone including yourself is drunk on a night,
don’t attempt to drive home. Sleep in the car and
wait until the morning or even afternoon before
driving. If you see someone who is drunk and is
about to start driving, prevent them from taking
the wheel.
Drink driving can be avoided easily if you just
think. Think ahead of time and don’t take any
chances because it will end in devastation.
It’s simple, Don’t drink and drive!
