INSTALLATION

- Sri.J.M.Malik

Precautions:
 Transformer oil is flammable beyond 1400 hence flames should never
kept near transformer
 As far as possible no work should be carried out during monsoon
season to avoid moisture absorption.
 While accessing interior parts workmen should empty their pockets
 Fiber cleaning material should not be used as it reduces insulating
properties. [use clean dry cloth only]
 All components shall be cleaned inside and outside before being fitted.

Inspection checks:
1. Main unit -Gas/oil filled (oil up to the mark level)
 Dirt - Clean.
 Rust - Clean & Paint
 Loose bolts – Tighten
2. All Condenser bushings;
 Physical checks
 Visual cracks/breakage & oil leakage
 Dirt cleaning
 Oil level
 Bushing leads available
3. Bushings
 Any missing metal part & visual check damage
4. Pin/Post insulators
 Dirt cleaning & Any breakage
5. Fans
 Dirt cleaning, physical damage
6. All pipe work
7. Radiators
8. Check all other accessories
9. All other fabricated items, brackets/supports, check physical damage, rust
Verification of placement of main unit:

1
 Physical damage, paint finish.
 Control panels
 Samples from oil drum

Installation of turrets:
 Identify turret as per item no. on outline drawing.
 Verify the terminal nos.of turret CT’s.
 Test the CT for ratio, polarity and insulation resistance.

Installation of Bushings:
 Verify that oil level indicator facing downwards.
 Clean the bushing.
 Physical check for crack/damage.
 Measurement of tan delta & Capacitance
 Ensure connection & verify tightness bushing connectors
 Test tap always be earthed not to be open under any circumstances

Installation of other accessories:

 Conservator with supports
 Piping
 Cooler bank
 On load tap changer with Drive mechanism
 CT terminal boxes

Installation of protective instruments:

 Oil temperature Indicator (OTI),
 Winding temperature indicator(WTI-HV,IV&LV),
 Magnetic oil level gauge(MOG),
 Pr relief device(PRV),
 Buchholz Relay,
 Breather, pumps, fans and RTCC.
 Fire protection system.

2
Installation Check list:
 Revivification of assembly as per check list.

List of Erection Equipments Tools:

3
Evacuation and oil processing
 Evacuate the tank for 24 hrs or more at 760 mm of Hg.(Ensure
equalizing pipe between OLTC and main tank is open)
 Ready the oil in a separate tank with filtration done with desired oil test
results.
 Filling of oil under vacuum.
Circulation of oil till the desired values of BDV, ppm are achieved.
