Lesson 11: Real or Made-up

I . Objectives:

o Answer Wh- questions


o Tell whether the event is fiction or non-fiction
o Give the synonyms of words

II . Subject Matter: Story: “The Pixies and the Lazy Housewife” by Mary Calhoun,

retold by Dali Soriano

Materials: pictures, puppets, magic wand (toy)

Value Focus: Hard work

III . Procedure:

Motivation:

Show a video of a Tinkerbell and asked the children what does the fairy did.

Activating Prior Knowledge:

Show pictures of a fairy godmother and pixies.

Let pupils talk about them.

IV. Presentation:

Unlock the meaning of the following words as suggested:

1. pixies – (with the help of the picture)

2. groaned – (through action)

3. messy – (through picture)

Unlock also the meaning of the following words to make pupils see that some words
have the same meaning. Then, introduce the word synonyms.

1. dirty – unclean

2. fair – just

3. elf – pixie

4. moan – whine/groan

Motive Question:

Ask: Why did the pixies punish Bessy?

Read Aloud:

Read aloud the story “The Pixies and the Lazy Housewife.”

Let the pupils answer the comprehension questions. (Refer to LM, p. 276)
