III. Makey Makey Pencil Lead Pacman Control

● Your group will create a controller that has the following: up, down,
left, right, spacebar
○ You can use the Makey Makey pencil or your own No.2 pencil
● Attach the Makey Makey to the Chromebook then connect four
alligator clips to the arrow inputs on the Makey Makey, and one
alligator clip to the earth input.
● Take a piece of paper and cut it into quarters (4) . Each member
should draw and shade in their own shapes on the paper. It must
extend to the end of the paper. See picture for an example.
● Attach the arrow alligator clips to the pencil drawings and have one
member hold the tip of the earth alligator clip.
● Go to this website https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/11175452/
● Start the game and touch the pencil lead controller buttons to play
Pacman.
● Keep track of your scores! Take turns through the game.
● The highest score at the end of the day will win a prize!
● https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/11334244/ Try this Pacman
Game

Tips:

● If the controller isn’t working, make sure the lead buttons are
shaded in completely. Also make sure the lead that is touching
the alligator clip on the edge of the paper are thick lines.
● Make sure you are holding the tip of the earth alligator clip.
● When you play for a long time, sometimes it stops working. This is
because you may have pencil lead residue on their fingers. Use
hand sanitizer to clean your hands of lead if needed.

IV. Makey Makey Piano & Karaoke

● Go to this website download the Chrome extension

https://www.screencastify.com
● Use your game pad from Pacman and add a button labeled “click”
○ Ask for permission if you want to make a new controller
● In another tab go to this website
https://apps.makeymakey.com/piano/
● Have one student hold the “Earth” wire.
● Take turns and play with the piano but try to create your own group
song.
○ A suggestion is to write lyrics (about a paragraph), create a
tune (something short that can be repeated), and practice at
least 5 times.
● Click on the Screencastify icon and record your song.
● Be ready to share with the class.
