Lesson Plan: Language Functions

AIMS: - to recognize and describe objects in the classroom

- to recognize pieces of furniture
- to match furniture with the correct room
- to use the new vocabulary and make sentences

ANTICIPATED PROBLEMS:
If Ss do not understand the oral commands or the tasks, they will be translated into
Romanian
STAGES:
ACTIVITY 1: WARM-UP
Good morning, teacher!
Good morning, pupils! Sit down. Is anybody absent today? (No. or …... )
a) Checking the homework
What was your homework for today?
Our homework for today was ex. 3 page 78.
The pupils write the correct words on the blackboard in order to be corrected.
b) Linking the old lesson with the new lesson
Where are we now? In the classroom
What is this? This is a blackboard
Do you have a blackboard at home? No
Do you have a teacher’s desk at home? No
How many rooms do you have at home?
Interaction: T-Ss, Ss-T / individual work
Time: 10 min.
Materials: blackboard, textbooks
ACTIVITY 2: LEAD-IN
Procedure: T writes the title of the new module on the blackboard Module 7 At home and
presents to the Ss what are they going to study about in this unit, then tries to elicit from the
Ss an answer regarding the title. What to you understand by: At home? With what words can
you associate home? How do you feel at home? Do you know any proverbs connected to the
title? (There’s no place like home, Home is where your heart is).
T writes on the blackboard the title of the first unit in this module Unit 7a-Rooms and
furniture and Ss write it in their notebooks.
ROOMS AND FURNITURE
T asks Ss if they know what means the word ''furniture''. She gives examples of words
related to furniture: desk, chair, teacher’s desk.
Ss translate the words.
T shows the class some pictures with rooms in a house and some flashcards.
Interaction: T-Ss, Ss-T / whole-class work
Time: 10 min.
Materials: blackboard, flashcards
ACTIVITY 3: PRESENTATION OF THE NEW KNOWLEDGE
Procedure: T reminds the ss the names of the rooms.
T shows the flashcards and names them; Ss translate the new words and write them in their
notebooks.
Ss listen to their teacher and repeat the new words
Ss translate sentences using the new words.
1. Acest fotoliu este în camera de zi.
2. Patul este în dormitor.
3. Frigiderul este in bucatarie.
Then, the ss. are asked to read ex. 1page 80 and match the words with the images .
The T corrects their mistakes, if any.
Interaction: T-Ss, Ss-T / whole-class work / individual work
Time: 20 min.
Materials: blackboard, flashcards
ACTIVITY 4: FEED-BACK
Procedure: T asks Ss to work in pairs and solve exercise 2 page 80.The pairs come at the
blackboard and place the correct furniture in the correct room. (Example: Put the bed in the
bedroom. or Put the chair in the kitchen.) The t. corrects their pronunciation, if necessary.
Interaction: T-Ss, Ss-Ss / pair - work
Time: 8 min.
Materials: blackboard
ACTIVITY 5: READING COMPREHENSION
Procedure: T asks Ss what is their opinion: Do you think houses changed in time? Do you
think that houses that were built in the past still exist? Are they fashionable nowadays? Do
you think houses differ from one country to another? How do you think that English houses
are like?
T elicits answers from the SS explaining afterwards that on an English street one can find a
variety of houses from different periods of history.
In order to get Ss more familiar with English houses she presents them three type of houses
going back in time in the Victorian Era, in the ‘50s,and ‘90s explaining how houses were like
back then.
Ss read a history file: History on an English Street page 81,being given the new vocabulary
items: fireplace, terraced, neighbours, semi-detached.
ACTIVITY 6: EVALUATION
T grades some Ss and accounts for them. As homework, Ss are assigned to do ex. 3 page 81.
