The story tells of a miller's daughter who is taken to the palace after her father lies that she can spin straw into gold. She is locked in a room full of straw and told to spin it into gold by dawn or die. A jumping dwarf appears and agrees to do the task in exchange for her ring. He spins the straw into gold and she is allowed to live. She later marries the king but the dwarf returns to claim the child she now has unless she can guess his name in three days.
