WEEKLY JOURNALS
This is where you think about your FMP learning journey and development.
Don’t simply describe what you did - consider what you have learnt and how this has benefitted
your project. What do you need to improve?
THIS IS JUST GUIDANCE THAT YOU NEED TO ADAPT TO YOUR OWN PROJECT. YOU HAVE CREATED YOUR
OWN PRODUCTION SCHEDULES AND YOUR WEEKLY BLOGS SHOULD REFELCT THAT.
THESE QUESTIONS SHOULD BE ADDRESSED IN THE WEEKS YOU COMPLETED THEM. DO NOT JUST SUBMIT THIS
FORM FILLED IN FOR YOUR WEEKLY BLOGS. THERE SHOULD BE 11 WEEKLY BLOG ENTRIES (INCLUDING
       EASTER).
       Week Three - Research
RESEARCH
What did you learn from your From the research I learned that sometimes its hard to get the
research? right Foley sounds and it is also hard to record the Foley sounds in
the correct conditions because when I came to film my test
shoots, there was rainfall which is heard when you play back the
footage but luckily you don’t really hear it when you listen to the
part I had selected which was good. After hearing feedback
from teachers, I have developed my idea slightly so that the story
is more convincing. For example the group of teenagers that go
down there now go down there because they lose a football
down the underground railway station instead of just randomly
                                        walking down there.
How has the research into your target I feel like research into my target audience has helped because I
audience helped you improve your can get a better idea of how appeal to them a bit easier and I
ideas? learned that they didn’t enjoy listening to radio dramas so I will try
and aim to change their mind about radio dramas by making my
piece more relatable and interesting which will hopefully change
their minds. I will have the main characters as teenagers to help
target the younger side of the audience.
How has the research into your In terms of platform research, I feel like this has helped because I
platform helped you improve your can get a better understanding of where I will potentially upload
ideas? my piece. I looked at Radio 4 because there are popular radio
dramas and podcasts on there which are liked by a lot of people.
I looked into sound cloud because I noticed that the younger
generation visit sound cloud a lot so I want to upload on there so
that the younger side of my audience will see my radio drama.
How has researching characters and This has helped because I was able to think of the type of
actors helped you decide who to characters I want to have as main characters. I was going to
cast? have the main characters as teenagers so that it would help me
appeal to my target audience a lot easier and I feel like having
teenagers as main characters would make people like parents
with kids of their own care and people around the same age as
the characters would care about them a lot more.
What have you learned from your When I did the test shooting I recorded to examples of Foley
test shoots? How will you use these which I will use when I come to filming the finished piece. I
ideas in your production? learned that to get the correct Foley sound, it’s quite difficult as
sometimes there are background sound effects like birds chirping
and rainfall, which are annoying as you can’t do anything about
them and I also learned that if you know how to make the
sounds, it’s a lot easier to recreate the sounds that you want to
use in your piece in my test shoots I aimed to experiment with
channelling and echoing, looking at these has helped me to
further develop my understanding of adobe audition and how the
                                       features within the program work
What work do you need to complete I need to complete the last couple of sections of the research to
outside of lessons to stay on track? stay on track
High Grade Tips
Research
   ● ‘Thorough research’ - include plenty of sources and detailed analysis of this information
   ● ‘relevant & coherent’ – make sure your research sources are not just the same as the Media
product you hope to make - and talk about how they inform your planning
   ● ‘sustained’ – continue your research throughout the eleven-week project and don’t just limit it to
       the first two weeks
   ● ‘accomplished & considered’ – all of the above referred to in your daily/weekly reflections
