Abortion Law

The document discusses the current debate around abortion law in the United States. It notes that 20 cases challenging abortion laws, including some passed by former Vice President Mike Pence, may reach the Supreme Court and potentially overturn the Roe v. Wade and Casey v. Planned Parenthood decisions. The author argues that Americans remain deeply divided on the issue of abortion. While the landmark rulings could be overturned, the fight for abortion rights will continue as long as free speech is protected.

Abortion Law: Is it Dying?

Honestly; can we please settle on our current consensus regarding abortion law?

Americans remain so consistently divided on such topics of controversy that no copious

amount of convincing could sway them to either side. Stubbornness defines us, but instances

like this require a careful consideration for the people around us that we do not have; our

stubborn nature disregards reason as such. In the case of Roe v. Wade, or Casey v. Planned

Parenthood; these cases are rarely being handled in the realm of reason, be it conservatives

who guide themselves merely by ‘moral’ standards, or liberals who seem to harbor no regard

for human life in its early stages; neither are necessarily true, but we all seem to agree with

the stereotypes anyway. Now, at least twenty cases; including 2 regarding Indiana laws

passed by Mike Pence himself, regarding discrimination-based abortion; have a chance at

reaching the U.S. Supreme Court and strangling the prior decisions of both cases to death,

and securing conservatives’ power over their remains. May we look no further than the

tumult surrounding abortion rights ever since Roe v. Wade made its way to the supreme

court: arsons, bombings, murder and madness in a country which prides itself in safety of

freedom and the fabled “pursuit of happiness” which all are entitled to. Are we so divided

that two countries must begrudgingly remain in one by the aging duct tape of our
constitution? Have we forgotten what, just over 150 years ago, we’d fought to maintain; or

the promise of our 236 year old ancestors to become free peoples; subjects of their political

experiment? Yes; the regrettable truth is that people are becoming more ignorant and

stubborn (just look at their presidential choices). We take for granted the ideas laid out

before us and blind ourselves to progress, when we could do better to accommodate our

people. The rulings passed for Roe v. Wade and Casey v. Planned Parenthood may be

overturned; abortion law may be killed; but these landmark rulings will become martyrs,

and, as long as free speech remains as such, the fight for rights can and will continue. As it

should.
