Review of the show
As a group we intended to create an interview that helps young people know how to get
into the media industry. The target audience for this interview were media students who
were wanting to get into the media industry and maybe didn’t know how, I feel like this
show was effective for the target audience, all of the questions were on topic and the
interviewee answered them effectively. The pre production was effective in helping me
due to the fact that the overhead diagrams helped me plan the positioning of the
camera and the camera shots i would use. The script helped me understand what I
should film when. I felt it wasn’t extremely difficult to make, since we worked as a team i
felt it was easier than if we didn’t. I think the final product was effective and useful. It hit
all the criteria we wanted it to with some minor issues but apart from that it worked out
well. Feedback I received was that the lighting could have been more effective and the
sound could have been better, there was some issues with hearing audio from the
gallery and some of the lighting seemed dark at times. There was also an issue with the
boom coming into shot. But apart from that the feedback was positive. All the team did
their jobs well and it made the product effective.
Overview of my Role as a camera operator
One of the first things I did was setup all the studio, I listened to the floor manager and
the director so I placed the camera in the right allocated spot and then wired it up to the
vision mixer correctly. I feel as I performed my role well, I made sure that the tripod was
steady at all times, and that the subjects were framed well in the two shot I had to do. I
ensured that the tripod was in a secure position where It wouldn’t move. I used a script
to plan the timing of shots, allowing me to fully visualise the shots that would be used.
Here is an image of me using a script to plan my shots
I also communicated with the floor manager to make sure that the cables on the floor
wouldn’t cause any issue with my movement or the filming of the interview. I had a talk
box, headphones and a mic with me at all times so I could communicate with both the
other camera operators to make sure the interview went smoothly with no issues. The
director and visual director would also talk to me through the talkboxes so i knew when
my camera was live and when i was free to move and adjust it. During the filming I
couldn't reply to the instructions verbally due to the mic not being sensitive enough and i
couldn”t be talking loudly
An issue i had was due to the dolly. The ground in the studio was uneven and slightly
bumpy, this mixed with the fact i had a heavy camera made the dolly get stuck at certain
spots. This meant that we couldn’t get the opening shot we desired and had to resort to
a zoom, after reviewing the zoom with the rest of the camera shot we felt like it was
unnecessary and wouldn’t be as effective as intended.
