2、 IPTV hotel system network solutions

2.1 IPTV System topology
IPTV system is divided into three parts, the main system, network system and

set-top box, topology showed as below. The main system is placed in a weak engine

room, connected to Internet, PMS and other hotel information systems. The set-top

boxis placed next to the TV set, and connected to main system through IP connections.

Network system provide connections for the main system and set-top box.

2.3 Transmission Network Design

 

For IPTV transmission network, we recommend to use a separate network device,

to isolate with the internet access network for hotel guests physically, to avoid the

guest who watching TV affect other guests to access the internet.

The system use two-way broadband, two-tier IPTV transmission network design,

including a core layer network switch and many access layer edge switchs.

1.The core switch should meet the following conditions:

1）Support inter-VLAN multicast and igmp proxy.

2）Supports single mode Gigabit optical interface, for external network access.

3）Support multi-mode Gigabit optical interfaces, used to connect the access

switch. Number of multi-mode Gigabit optical interfaces can be extended to 40.

4）Support Gigabit electrical interface.

1.The access switches shall meet the following conditions:

1）Support multicast, and multicast traffic 200M;

2）Support multi-mode Gigabit optical interfaces on the joint;

3）24 pcs 100M electrical interface;

Downstream connections from the core switches to edge switches should provide

enough bandwidth for streaming video, in order to MulticastandUnicast. TV channels

use multicast transmission, and other video stream use unicast transmission. SD TV

programs occupy bandwidth is calculated as 1.5M, VOD programs occupy bandwidth

is calculated as 4M, HD TV programs occupy bandwidth is calculated as 12M, satellite

TV (if using IP conversion solution) occupy bandwidth is calculated as 8M. Video on

Demand (VOD) ordering concurrent number is calculated as 20%, and among 20% for

HD video on demand. The occupancy rate is calculated as 75%. Downlink bandwidth

is estimated as follows:

457 * 75% * 80% * 1.5M + 457 * 75% * 20% * (80% * 4M + 20% * 12M) = 795M

Use Gigabit fiber as a link between the core switches and access switches will

meet the bandwidth requirements.

3、System Equipments introduction

3.1 System introduction

For IPTV system design, according to the application size and business

development support requirements, we generally recommend to use the classification

framework for networking, due to the small network in a single hotel, the hotel can use

only one network. Its central node is set in the hotel media headends, composed by

digital satellite receiver equipment, video encoder and decoder, the center stream

media server, and operation management platform, to achieve the uniform operation

and management of the hotel IPTV service, and it is also the contents center of the

IPTV system. It has some stream media service capabilities to achieve disaster

recovery services. Video encoder and decoder compress and encode the video

stream from satellite receiving equipment, cable TV tunner, DVD and other video

source devices, convert into IP packets for transmission on the network, sent to the

center stream media server, and then distribute from the center stream media server.

The set-top box decode the IP packet from stream media server, and eventually

become a video format that TV can play.

3.2 Headends management system

3.2.1 Hotel IPTV content management system (CMS)

The content management system composed by the business processing system,

content management system, billing services system, etc.

Content management system is mainly responsible for video and audio programs

playing, the monitoring system construction and management, including

management and processing of business logic and business data processing and

other basic business processing functions; the organization of the content of the video

and audio, broadcast, production, verification, storage,management and publishing,

broadcast control, security and content management capabilities of the video and

audio content; user information for system management, user management, service

management, business management, statistical analysis, certification authentication,

billing, reconciliation settlement, and other business data management operation

support functions.

The third-party service providers platform applications include games, information

services, e-commerce, interactive programs, etc, these applications need to publish

on content management system, for the user to order and use.

3.2.2 Hotel IPTV business processing system

The business processing system is used to manage the IPTV subscribers, content

providers, service providers, and their business. Including certification authentication,

content billing, etc, and interoperable with PMS system. The business processing

system composed by business management system, the EPG software, set-top box

version management system, the call list service system, interface system, as well as

a variety of other business functions modules.

The business processing system provide the following functions:

logic management and process, business data processing, call list management

and interfaces.

●System Administration: User Management, SP management, service

management, DRM management, systems management, statistical analysis,

JXIP-S set-top box is a cost-effective SD IPTV set-top boxes, suitable for

4.2.6 Bill inquiry function

IPTV system connect to the hotel  PMS  system,  guests can inquire their consumption  at 

any time, and upon confirmation of the bill and require to checkout, guests simply press the 

remote  control  to  confirm  the  consumer  bill,  and  it  will  transfer  to  the  front  desk  through 

the hotel PMS interface, at the same time, the system will notice the room service to check 

the room.

4.2.7 Message and voice mail function

Guests can access to a text or voice message from IPTV system sent by the hotel, learn 

about  the  latest  service  information,  guestbook,  service  feedback  and  other  information.

During use of the entire system, a message will pop up automatically, prompting the guests 

to  click  to  view,  guests  can  also  enjoy  the  news  summary  section,  browse  all  of  the 

information.
