Abortion: War on Humanity

There are many people who are uneducated about the abortion procedure itself. Some are

just unaware of what it truly does to an unborn child. They know that the abortion procedure is

able to get them out of a problem, but they do not know what the procedure actually does. The

processes it takes to mutilate an unborn baby is entirely gruesome.

The dilation and evacuation abortion is a surgical abortion. This means that the process

begins with a doctor administering anesthesia to the patient. The doctor then uses a weighted

speculum which widens the vagina. Since the second trimester babies are so large, this allows

better access to the uterus to perform the abortion. The cervix must be prepared twenty-four to

forty-eight hours in advance with laminaria. Laminaria is a type of sterilized seaweed that

absorbs water over eight to twelve hours. This causes the cervix to swell to several times its

original size. Once the laminaria is removed, metal dilators can be used to open the cervix

further. Next a suction tube is used to suck up all of the amniotic fluid. A clamp is then used to

grab onto an arm or leg of the baby, then the doctor pulls hard in order to tear the limb from the

unborn baby’s body. Once all of the limbs are moved one by one, the intestines, spine, heart and

lungs are taken out. Next its head is crushed into different pieces. Once the doctor sees a fluid,

then he knows that he knows that he has crushed the baby’s head because that was the baby’s

brain. Those pieces of the baby’s head are then removed. Lastly the placenta is removed as well

as any remains left in the uterus.

Many risks come with the dilation and evacuation abortion procedure. Uterine perforation

and cervical lacerations can occur. Any of those can cause infection in the mother. Hemorrhage
Hewitt 3

is likely as well. Death of the mother’s possible, although it is rare. This procedure can also

cause future pregnancy complications (Prenatal Development).

The abortion pill is the second most common abortion procedure. This is called a

“medical abortion”, which is a non-surgical abortion. It includes that action of taking

medications within the first seven to nine weeks of pregnancy to induce an abortion

(“Background of the Issue”). This procedure has two steps to it. The woman first takes a pill

called mifepristone, which blocks the action of a hormone called progesterone. Progesterone is

naturally produced in the woman’s body which stabilizes the lining of the uterus. Once the

progesterone is blocked, the lining of the uterus breaks down. This cuts off the nutrients and

blood that goes from the mother to the baby. The baby then dies inside the womb of the mother.

After that occurs, the woman then takes misoprostol which is used to start labor. This causes

severe cramping, contractions, and often heavy bleeding which forces the deceased unborn baby

out of the woman’s uterus (“Prenatal Development”).

There are plenty of risks and side effects of taking these medications. There is

tremendous bleeding which lasts, on average, nine to sixteen days. About eight percent of

women bleed more than thirty days and about one percent of women require hospitalization due

to the heavy bleeding. Abdominal pain occurs due to cramping cause by this medical procedure

(“Prenatal Development”).

The most common abortion procedure is called the Suction Curettage abortion

(“Background of the Issue”). This procedure is performed at about five to thirteen weeks of a

pregnancy. The doctor first administers anesthesia, then he uses a speculum to place in the

vagina. This allows the abortionist access to view the cervix. A series of different instruments
Hewitt 4

called “dilators” are used to dilate the cervix. This gives access to see the inside of the uterus.

Next, the doctor takes an action catheter and inserts it into the cervix. This catheter is connected

to a suction machine which gets turned on. The baby is then torn apart and sucked through the

catheter (“Prenatal Development”).

There are plenty of risks that go along with this procedure. A possible occurrence could

be that the abortion could be incomplete and pieces of the baby could have been left in the uterus

of the mother which can lead to infection or bleeding. Perforation or laceration of the uterus or

cervix could also occur. The mother’s intestines, bladder, and nearby blood vessels could be

damaged during the abortion procedure. Maternal death is even possible in some rare cases

(“Prenatal Development”)

Induction Abortion is another procedure. This is an abortion which is performed in the

third trimester of the woman’s pregnancy. This is a surgical abortion. At this point in the

woman’s pregnancy, the baby is almost fully developed and viable. This means that it could

survive outside the womb. This procedure itself takes three to four days to complete. First the

doctor used a large needle to inject Digoxin, which is used commonly to treat heart problems.

Although, if a high enough dosage is used, it can cause fatal cardiac arrest. This is inserted

through the mother into the baby, either in the heart or head of the baby. The doctor then places

sticks of laminaria into the mother’s cervix to induce the child. The mother then carries her dead

baby in her womb for the next two to three days. The child is then delivered at the clinic. It is

possible that the woman would not be able to get to the clinic soon enough and could even

deliver her baby in her own home.

Hewitt 5

The risks from this procedure could be hemorrhages or lacerations. Uterine perforations

could occur. Maternal death is possible due to a complication during the process. This could

cause for future pregnancy complications (“Prenatal Development”).

In 1973, the innocent babies’ lives were declared invaluable. Roe v. Wade was what

caused this to happen. Roe v. Wade declared most state anti-abortion laws unconstitutional This

made it legal to perform abortions in the U.S. This pushed the pro-life activists to start fighting to

make it illegal to perform abortions again. From this situation formed “pro-choice” supporters

and “pro-life” supporters. Through the pro-choice supporters, the foundation, Planned

Parenthood, was formed. This corporation supports a woman’s rights to make decisions

regarding her pregnancy (“Background of the Issue”). Pro-life supporters stand for the rights of

the innocent baby’s life being controlled by the woman carrying the child. Pro-life supporters

believe that if a woman is to become pregnant, then she should accept the responsibility that

comes with producing a child (“Should Abortion Be Legal?”). Abortion supports a society in

which human life is just disposable (“Background of the Issue”).

Abortion is still occurring every day in the United States. About 125,000 abortions occur

each day. 5,208 abortions occur each hour, about 87 abortions per minute. There have been

plenty of pro-life organizations in efforts to reverse the action of Roe v. Wade. Although, forty-

five year later, the government hasn’t moved much further. Innocent lives are being taken every

single day.

In efforts to create a safe, helpful, and legal establishment, Planned Parenthood was

formed. The goal of Planned Parenthood is to “empower individuals to make independent

‘informed’ decisions about their sexual and reproductive lives.” Planned Parenthood is there to
Hewitt 6

provide “choices” for expecting mothers in tough situations, or just ignorant situations. A

prominent choice that women see is to have an abortion. Planned Parenthood receives over 500

million dollars in taxpayer’s money each year for their establishment. There are many inhumane

acts that occur behind the closed doors of Planned Parenthood.

In efforts to reveal to the public, the brutality of the works that happen behind the scenes

at Planned Parenthood, a woman named Lila Rose began a corporation called Live Action. Live

Action is a non-profit organization in which Lila and her colleagues strive to expose the inner-

workings at Planned Parenthood. There are pregnant women who pose as pregnant women that

want to have an abortion, and they ask “touchy” questions in order to show what the workers are

saying in Planned Parenthood. There are dozens of secret videotaped videos taken revealing what

Planned Parenthood workers are saying in response to many different things. The goal of Live

Action is to expose what abortion does to a preborn child (liveaction.org).

When pro-choice supporters stand to defend their arguments, they use a lot of different

instances to excuse the actions of killing innocent human beings. A few of those arguments

include a woman having been raped, a pregnant woman’s life being in danger, a woman’s right

to her body, or the problem of performing illegal abortions.

If a woman is raped, there already is an immense amount of mental difficulties. Having

an abortion does not “unrape” a woman. It does not take away what happened to the woman. A

woman named Ashley Sigrest had an abortion after she was raped, but she felt that it did not help

her with her life. “After I was raped, I felt a lot of fear; there was shame that I felt because of

what had happened to me. But after having the abortion, the fear and shame grew even more. It

turned to guilt… I didn’t choose to have sex, someone else chose to rape me. But I did make the
Hewitt 7

choice to have an abortion, I made the choice to kill my child… My life was no longer about the

rape. The rape to me didn’t even matter anymore because I had to live with every day knowing I

killed my child. It wasn’t a rapist’s child. It was my child.” The guilty party in a sexual assault

case is the rapist. The child should not have to pay for their father’s crimes. The real question is

“Why should innocent children receive the death penalty for the crimes of their guilty fathers?”,

when the crime of rape and sexual assault does not require such a penalty (“Hard Cases”).

When a pregnant woman’s life is in danger, abortion is not necessary. The solution is to

just deliver the baby via c-section. There is a declaration called the Dublin Declaration which has

more than 1,000signatures from obstetricians, neonatologists, pediatricians, midwives, and other

medical professionals. This declaration states “As experienced practitioners and researchers in

obstetrics and gynecology, we affirm that direct abortion-the purposeful destruction of the

unborn child-is not medically necessary to save a woman’s life.” There are so many other

options to choose than abortion in this situation. The pregnant woman could have an induced

labor and/or delivery of a premature child. She could deliver the child rather than killing it and

discarding its life (“Hard Cases”).

With the argument of a woman’s rights, pro-choice supporters view this differently than

pro-life supporters. Pro-choice supporters say that they get the right to choose what they want to

do with their bodies. Society gives them this idea, that they can do whatever they want to do.

“Reproductive choice empowers women by giving them control over their own bodies” (“Should

Abortion Be Legal?”) An argument could say that “Person A may have a right to life, but if

he/she needs a blood transfusion, it doesn’t mean that Person B should be forced into donating

blood.” One could relate that to a woman “donating” her uterus to the baby (“Bodily Rights”)
Hewitt 8

Pro-life supporters see it differently. Parents have certain obligations to their children

before and after birth. “The child by reason of his physical and mental immaturity needs specific

safeguard and care, including appropriate legal protection before as well as after birth” (“Bodily

Rights”). All human beings have rights. They possess them by virtue of their humanity and not

because they are granted to us by government or other people. The most foundational human

right is the right to life (“Human Rights”).

Pro-choice supporters talk about rights, as if the child inside a pregnant woman’s womb

does not have any. Even though they are human beings and they do have rights. Pro-choice

supporters say that unborn children are just “clumps of cells”. They also say that the unborn

babies do not have any rights (“Human Rights”) On the other hand, pro-life supporters say that a

human is human as soon as there is DNA. Right at conception, it is a human being. Whether a

person if fifty years old, eighteens, or two is not what makes killing incorrect. What actually

matter sis that the victim is a human being (“Life’s Beginning”).

An argument that is widely discussed is about illegal abortions. If the government were to

decide that abortion be illegal, then there still would be people who attempted at having

abortions, which could just be safer. Access to legal, professionally performed abortions reduces

maternal injury and death caused by unsafe illegal abortions (“Should Abortion Be Legal?”)

Abortion is never safe for the unborn baby in the first place. In certain occasions, it is unsafe for

the pregnant woman as well. Abortion dismembers, suctions, and/or poisons the babies to death.

Also, “even if an argument could be made that legal abortion is safer for women, if an abortion

ends an innocent human being’s life, then it isn’t ethical to legalize killing in order to make it
Hewitt 9

supposedly safer for those participating in it. Abortion, legal or not still includes the possibility

of negative effects to the woman’s health. Also, the number of women who were harmed from

illegal abortions prior to Roe v. Wade was greatly increased by those lobbying for the

legalization of abortion (“Illegal Abortion”).

Whole Women’s Health was one of many corrupt abortion facilities. Detailed inspection

reports revealed unclean and unsterile working places. “As common in the abortion industry,

making a hefty profit is the bottom line and must be achieved over anything else, including the

health and safety of patients”, said Abby Johnson, the starter of the group called “Then There

Were None” which helps abortion workers leave their jobs. “The reports we obtained show a

blatant disregard for women’s health and safety, as well as the safety of the abortion workers

themselves,” according to Abby Johnson. Abby Johnson visited the faculty of the abortion clinic

that was shut down an put up for sale. She took pictures of the dirty equipment and what

appeared to be blood on the walls. There were many code violations at this faculty, even when it

was legal to perform abortions (“Whole Women’s Health Exposed”).

Planned Parenthood is another corrupt organization. According to Live Action, there are

many inhumane things happening behind the doors of Planned Parenthood. Live Actions’ goal is

to expose Planned Parenthood for what it is doing and how its workers are behaving. There was a

video taken and revealed to the public taken by the Live Action group that an employee of

Planned Parenthood was being told about a man sex trafficking a young woman. This was a set

up by Live Action and they set up the worker and the worker just ignored that the young woman

was being sex trafficked (liveaction.org).

Hewitt 10

There have been instances where an abortion has failed, and the baby has survived. There

are stories about these people whom have grown up learning and standing up for what they

believe, standing behind the pro-life views. Gianna Jessen is a woman who survived these

horrific circumstances. Gianna Jessen was intended to die before she was born. She overcame the

pain from the burning saline and somehow survived. She was entered into the foster care system

after spending her first few months in the hospital. She is now a speaker all around the United

States sharing her story and sharing her faith with many people. She is using her life as a living

example that unborn children are truly human and can become incredible and strong-willed men

or women. She frequently shares her story speaking for those unborn children who can’t speak

for themselves.

Abortion is the brutal mutilation of unborn children. Many pro-choice supporters aren’t

informed enough about the true facts of abortion or the holes in their arguments. Murder is

wrong no matter the age nor location. There are plenty of other decisions pregnant women can

make other than killing innocent unborn children.
