This document provides work procedures for insulating field joints on pipes. It specifies using polyurethane sections 30-40mm thick with a density of 40kg/m3 for insulation. Material Specifications

1. Insulation Material – Polyurethane sections 30 MM / 40 MM thk. Density 40 Kg/M³.

2. Self adhesive glass reinforced Aluminium Foil Tape.

3. Foster 60-95 Vapour Barrier, 60 – 90 or 60 – 38 Vapour Barrier.

4. Open Weave Glass Cloth No. 10.

Straight / Bend Field Joint.

(a) Grit blasting to SA 2½ & painting of joints/bends using Zink Rich Epoxy Primer at 70
microns before insulation.

(b) Fixing polyurethane layer pipe sections of 30 MM thk for field joints and 40 MM thk for
short radius bends (Density of polyurethane will be 40 Kg/M³).

(c) Securing the above polyurethane performed pipe sections with self adhesive glass
reinforced aluminium foil tape.

(d) Applying 2 coats of Foster 60-95 as vapour barrier over polyurethane pipe sections. Total
thickness of coating will be 0.8 MM (dry).

(e) A layer of open weave glass cloth no. 10 will be sandwiched between the 2 coats of foster
60-95.
