BYOD/BYOT Implementation Plan for Third Grade Math

Oconee County School District BYOT Policy

BYOT Platform:
Oconee County has begun implementing a 1:1 technology program in third
through fifth grade. Through this initiative, students in these grades will receive a
chromebook device they can use at school and beginning this year, fourth and fifth
grade students will be able to take their devices home. Third grade students will be
able to bring devices home starting in January after they have learned how to properly
take care of them in class. Chromebooks pair well with the Google Suite and we will
use this platform as well as our learning management system, itsLearning for
assignments and communication. Students will be able to create, collaborate, and
complete assignments using Google Docs, Google Slides, Google Forms, etc. Students
will also be able to access all newsletters, homework assignments, assessments, and
resources with one login and password through itsLearning. Parents will be provided
with their own login and password so they can check in on their child’s progress on
assigned coursework, as well as grades.

Device Accessibility:
Students in third grade are provided with chromebooks through our 1:1
technology initiative. This allows all students to be able to complete in class
assignments. If homework assignments are given that require internet access and
devices at home, students will be given time in class to complete the assignments
when their chromebooks are accessible. Students will not be penalized for not being
able to complete online assignments at home.

Device Use:
Students will have opportunities to use their devices individually, in pairs, and
in small groups in class. Students will be assigned various activities and assessments
to complete individually in class; they will also be assigned projects to complete in
pairs or groups using their devices. When students are paired or grouped, we will
utilize programs such as Google where they can easily collaborate on one document.
iPads will also be accessible to students through iPad carts available for checkout in
the school library, as well as one iPad in our classroom.

Math Apps:
● BrainPop Featured Movie: BrainPop features fun and engaging videos to
teach various math concepts.
● Reflex Math: Oconee County has purchased a subscription to Reflex Math for
third grade students. Students can build fact fluency in addition/subtraction
and multiplication/division through this math app.
● IXL: Oconee County has purchased a subscription to IXL for all third grade
students. Teachers can assign skills for students to practice various math
skills.
● Splash Math: This app is a fun and engaging way for students to practice fact
fluency.
● Number Pieces by the Math Learning Center: This app is compatible with
Chromebooks and provides virtual manipulatives of base ten blocks. This app
would be useful during place value, rounding, and addition/subtraction units.
● Number Line by the Math Learning Center: This app is compatible with
Chromebooks and provides virtual manipulatives of a numberline. Students
can use this app to manipulate numbers on a number line. This app would be
useful during rounding, addition/subtraction, and multiplication/division units.
● Pattern Shapes by the Math Learning Center: This app is compatible with
Chromebooks and provides virtual manipulatives of pattern blocks. This app
would be useful in area, perimeter, geometry, and factions units.
● Kahoot: This app is a great way to conduct formative assessments in an
engaging and fun way. Kahoot can be used for all math concepts or units.
Teachers can assign pre-made quizzes or create their own to assess their
students.
