Micro-Needling: 1. What Is Clinical Microneedling?

Microneedling is a treatment that uses tiny needles to puncture the skin and stimulate collagen production. It can reduce signs of aging like wrinkles and acne scars. The procedure takes 30 minutes and causes minor redness and swelling for 1-2 days after. Most people see immediate plumping and brightness, with continued improvement over months. A series of 3-6 treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart is typically recommended to achieve optimal results.

MICRO-NEEDLING

FAQ
1. What is Clinical Microneedling?
Microneedling is a FDA cleared minimal invasive treatment
Clinical or Medical Micro-needling, also called collage induction therapy, is
a state of the art treatment option for skin rejuvenation.
Microneedling is suitable for all skin tones, male and female.
The treatment that involves inserting very tiny needles, into the skin.
The purpose of micro needling is to rejuvenate your skin
This multi-purpose treatment targets everything from wrinkles, acne scars
to hair loss.

2. How does Microneedling work?

Small pulsating needles are used to create microscopic channels in
the skin.
The microscopic channels allow for the breakdown of the skins current
structure.
Microneedling creates an optimal condition for the penetration of healing
and rejuvenating substances.
This treatment triggers the body’s natural wound healing process, which
encourages collagen production, scar healing and overall brighter
complexion.
Microneedling is not just for your face, it can be done anywhere on the
body where the skin needs to be thickened, particularly in areas that have
stretch marks or acne scars, like the legs, chest, or bum. I
t’s also a great treatment for repairing sun damage you might have on your
arms, by stimulating collagen growth.

3. How does Clinical Microneedling differ from Dermal Rolling?

The Dermal Roller — a simple mechanical tool with a rolling drum on a
handle, festooned with thin surgical steel needles of a specific length and
rolled across the skin to create numerous perforations as it is moved.
Needle length may vary between rollers but stay generally within the
neighborhood of 1.5 mm. Results are noteworthy, to say the least.
Compared to Clinical Microneedling, Dermal Rolling quite painful, and any
post-needling erythema and/or edema tend to last about four days,
creating unwanted downtime. The character of the micro-wounds seen
with the dermal roller is much more traumatic to the skin; instead of a
rapid vertical needle insertion and withdrawal, dermal rollers dig into the
skin and create more of a tearing wound, and may be responsible for the
longer downtime.
There is also marked potential for variability between operators using
dermal roller technology. The nature of the rolling drum requires some
small amount of pressure during rolling to ensure proper needle
penetration. This pressure can never be the same between individual
users—or between individual treatments by the same user, no matter how
experienced—so depth of penetration will be inconsistent to some degree.

With Clinical Microneedling the device does the work; the user exerts force
in a lateral motion perpendicular to the skin’s surface, taking the user out
of the proverbial picture. This is an issue because the subject of
microneedle therapy is a matter of microscopic differences measured in
tenths of a millimeter. Theoretically, different penetration depths have
different therapeutic effects, so the ability to create consistent perforation
patterns may hold the key to therapeutic value and versatility.
From a practice standpoint, ensuring sterility is essential and with Clinical
Microneedling it is accomplished with the simple swapping of inexpensive
disposable tips. A dermal roller must be manually sterilized between users,
which is not a complicated or expensive process but is time consuming and
relatively less reliable. Also, the relatively small size of the Clinical
Microneedling tip makes it capable of needling areas such as the upper lip,
which a dermal roller cannot easily reach.

4. What are the benefits of Microneedling

 Reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles. Improves skin elasticity.
 Stimulates collagen production
 Reduce pore size
 Reduce the appearance of sun damage and aging factors

5. How many treatments will it take to start to see results?

Microneedling offers fairly immediate results.
From microneedling alone, you will look plump, pink and luminous. It
plumps the skin and makes the skin look more radiant from inflammation
and very superficial swelling.
Microneedling also promises improvement over time.

6. How long will the final Microneedling results last?

After your final procedure results will last from 8 up to 12 months.

7. How long does one Microneedling procedure take?

Total prep and procedure time is about two hours.
The actual microneedling process takes approximately 30 minutes.

8. Is the Microneedling procedure painful?

Before getting started, we will use a topical anesthetic to reduce the
chances of pain.
This is done about 30 min before your treatment.

9. What other side effects can I expect from Microneedling?

 You’ll experience minor redness and irritation for a few days after
the procedure
 Microneedling may increase sensitivity to skincare products since it
causes your skin to absorb products at a deeper level.
It’s wise to perform a patch test of any products you use after
microneedling by applying the product to a small area and waiting
24 hours to ensure you don’t have a negative reaction.
 According to Yale dermatologist Macrene Alexiades, MD, PhD,
frequent microneedling can lead to broken capillaries “and
predispose skin to a plastic look if you over abuse it with repeated
microneedle insults.”
It’s best to limit microneedling to once a month and always make
sure your skin has fully recovered before your next session.

10. What is the down time?

Microneedling is minimally invasive, requiring little to no downtime.
Immediately after your treatment, you will look as though you have
a mild to moderate sunburn, and your skin may feel warm and
tighter than usual. Keep in mind, these effects are normal and they
typically subside within a few hours after treatment, but can take up
to 24-48 hours for complete resolution.

11. What to expect after Microneedling

 You may notice skin irritation and redness within the first few
days following the procedure.
This is a natural response to the small “injuries” made by the
needles in your skin.
 You can go back to work or school after the procedure if
you’re comfortable.
 Some people apply camouflaging makeup during the first few
days as the redness dissipates.
 Your skin will also be more sensitive to the sun, so sunscreen is
a must.
 After microneedling, your skin works fairly quickly to
rejuvenate new tissue. In theory, you should see results within
a couple of weeks.

12. Ho many Microneedling sessions do I need?

You may need at least three procedures or more for the best results.

13. How many days between sessions?

4 – 6 Weeks between procedures depending on the healing of your
skin.

14. What does the total treatment cost?

Microneedling can cost anywhere from R 1000,00 to R 4000,00 per
session.
The overall costs depend on the size of the area being worked on.

MICRONEEDLING AFTERCARE
1. CLEAN – Use a gentle cleanser and tap water to cleanse the face for
72 hours post-treatment and gently dry skin. Always make sure your
hands are clean when touching the treated area and do not use a
powered cleansing brushes for at least one week after your
treatment.

2. HEAL – We recommend serum antioxidants post-treatment, as its

properties are ideal to help heal the skin by soothing and lessening
irritation. To ensure the proper healing environment, do NOT use
any Alpha Hydroxy Acids, Beta Hydroxy Acid, Retinol (Vitamin A),
Vitamin C (in a low pH formula) scrubs or anything perceived as
“active” skincare for one week post treatment.

3. HYDRATE – Following your Microneedling treatment, your skin

may feel drier than normal. Hyaluronic Acid is an ideal ingredient
you can use to hydrate and restore the skin back to perfect balance.
We recommend Eucerin Volume Filler concentrate.

4. STIMULATE – In the days following your Microneedling treatment,

and as the skin starts to regenerate, collagen-stimulating peptides
are ideal to maximize the effects of the stimulation already started
by the microneedling.

5. MAKEUP – We recommend you do not apply makeup for 24 to 72

hours after the procedure. In addition, do not apply any makeup
with a makeup brush, especially if the brush is not clean. Perform a
patch test of any products you use after microneedling by applying
the product to a small area and waiting 24 hours to ensure you don’t
have a negative reaction.
6. PROTECT –We recommend a chemical-free sunscreen. Keep in
mind that you should continue to use a sunscreen everyday—not
only the days following your procedure—as part of your skincare
routine to protect your skin from sun damage and premature aging.

7. EXERCISE - Do not exercise or participate in strenuous activity for

the first 72 hours post-treatment. Sweating and gym environments
in general are harmful and filled with bacteria, which may cause
adverse reactions in your skin.

Do not go swimming for at least 72 hours post-treatment.
