Civil Engineering Course Guide

This document contains descriptions of two reinforced concrete design courses. ENCE335 covers the basics of reinforced concrete including materials, design codes, stresses and strains in beams, and design of beams, slabs, and reinforcement. ENCE436 builds on ENCE335 with more advanced topics such as column and slab design, torsion, and a design project, with prerequisites of strength of materials and reinforced concrete design 1.

Characteristics of concrete constituents and steel reinforcement, properties of reinforced

concrete, design codes, stresses and strains in beams under bending, design of beams for
flexure and shear, steel reinforcement limits, design of continuous beams and one-way
slabs, deflection, development of reinforcement.
Prerequisite: ENCE3331

ENCE436 | REINFORCED CONCRETE DESIGN 2

way slabs on beams and flat slabs (DDM and EFM analysis approaches), torsion in beams,
design project.
Prerequisites: ENCE3341, ENCE335
