Cheer dance

Cheer dance is coined from the words, cheer and dance. To cheer is to shout out words or
phrases that may help motivate and boost the morale of a playing team and perform better during
a game. Dance, on the other hand, is a physical activity where one expresses emotions or
gestures while performing bodily movements usually in time with rhythm.

Cheer dancing rooted from cheerleading. Cheerleading is the performance of a routine, usually
dominated by gymnastic skills such as jumps, tumbling skills, lifts and tosses combined with
shouting of cheers and yells to lead the crowd to cheer for a certain team during a game or sport.
It originated in the United States. The presentation of cheerleading as a sport to a global audience
was led by the 1997 start of broadcasts of cheerleading competition by ESPN International and
the worldwide.

1898 that University of Minnesota student Johnny Campbell directed a

crowd in cheering "Rah, Rah, Rah! Ski-u-mah, Hoo-Rah! Hoo-Rah!
Varsity! Varsity! Varsity, Minn-e-So-Tah!", making Campbell the very
first cheerleader and November 2, 1898 the official birth date of
organized cheerleading. In 1923, at the University of Minnesota,
women were admitted into cheerleading.

Cheerleading first

In 1948, Lawrence "Herkie" Herkimer, of Dallas, Texas, a former cheerleader at Southern

Methodist University, formed the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) in order to hold
clinics for cheerleading. By the 1960s, college cheerleaders began hosting workshops across the
nation, teaching fundamental cheer skills to high-school-age girls. In 1965, Fred Gastoff
invented the vinyl pom-pom, which was introduced into competitions by the International
Cheerleading Foundation (now the World Cheerleading Association or WCA). In the 1950s, the
formation of professional cheerleading started.

The 1980s saw the beginning of modern cheerleading with more difficult stunt sequences and
gymnastics incorporated into routines.

Cheerleading Philippines (CPF) is the national confederation of Cheerleading organizations. It is

the national governing body of Cheerleading and Cheer Dance in the country. The CPF was
formed in and was affiliated with the International Federation of Cheerleading (IFC) in 2007.

Cheer dance is choreographed dance combined with gymnastics skills (tumbling, stunts, jumps,
turns and twists). Cheer leading has the same composition but there is a part in the routine where
yells and cheers are done either by the cheer leaders themselves or a team in the audience.
