REACTION PAPER ABOUT SONA 2017

Due to his firm and strong personality, Duterte attracted the majority of the votes of
Filipino the reason why he has secured the position being the leader of the country.
Aside from his strength, he is also known for his promise to bring change to this country
and on top of his list ever since is his aim to put an end on the illegal drugs in our country.
In this year’s SONA, the president reported all the plans he had acted upon and the
plans he had set for next year.
Duterte’s report stated that for change to come, it has to start on the people on high
position.
As per the top on his list, his target is to still end the illegal drugs and the criminalities in
the country. According to him it remained to be the root of evil. And the fight will not stop until
those people involved will stop. To those the critics of his fight, he said that instead of judging
they better help educate for he will not allow the ruin of the youth and the breakup of the
families. And to those who tend to ruin the life of the youth, to which the future lies, he will
hound them to hell.
The change’s start and the end of it can be found within of each.
However, he was saddened by what happened in Mindanao for it is the pursuit of the
living peace he is after not of the dead. The rebellion in Mindanao was clear that the extremist
has an intention of building up a caliphate and the reason why he declared the Martial Law
because it is the only way he thought to solve it that would not cost too many lives and
properties.
And as the president, he gives his solid support to the armies and the militaries for he
further added that he and he alone is responsible.
He recognized the heroic acts of the Philippine troops because of their bravery and
sacrifice as they risk their lives on the war so they do not have to fear because the president got
their backs.
He also plans that all the places that the mining have affected should be rehabilitated
and the people affected more significantly needed special attention.
He really gave emphasis how he hated the mining even the speaker hated the mining.
Going back to the Martial Law, he did it because he wanted to stop the rebellion.
Because as a matter of fact, he does not have any plans of going beyond his term.
He also admitted the except for his salary, he never accepted any money or even
allowances.
And to the mining companies, they just have to comply with the rules and regulations
and pay the right taxes for failed to do so, he will do what he has to do.
And as for the natural distractions such as typhoons and the earthquake, he will have to
empower and sustain the agencies related to it.
However, he still points out that the change he pursues is to still end the illegal drugs,
the criminalities and the corruption. He as well discussed the issue about the West Philippine
Sea and the federalism. He is willing to protect the people of this country and if what he did just
to secure the people would mean that he will get imprisoned, then he is willing to do so for life.
Those who committed a crime should be penalized but then, there is this Positivist
Theory. The president believes that there is always time for everything.
Reaction Paper in Economics #SONA2017
He asked the lawmakers to pass the bill on death penalty. He stated that
death penalty is not only a deterrent but also a means of retribution. The seemingly blatant
disregard for the value of human life did not sit well with some sectors.
He also chided people for their support to embattled Senator Leila De Lima who has
been seen as a standard bearer for some sectors in terms of morality. Again, the skewed
perspective did not sit well with some of the attendees who while laughing with the rest
seemed uncomfortable. Duterte did not seem to mind making fun of De Lima’s plight and
twisting the facts to serve his purpose. The seeming disregard for decency can be seen as an
indicator that morality might take a backseat once more.
Duterte reiterated that he valued human life as he valued his own. That is the reason
why he is angry at the criminals who endanger the people whom he has sworn to protect. He
warned that he will not stop until he can hound the culprits to the very gates of hell.
This reiteration of his support for the war on drugs and criminality is seen as somewhat
a bad omen for the masses. With the rampant doubt that the evidence is planted, more and
more people are afraid that they can be set-up. People who have surrendered in Project
Tokhang are among the ones who usually end up in the wrong end of the deal. While it has
forced people to refrain from getting into illegal drugs, he has created a stir that is rising against
him. It still hasn’t reached a crescendo but his ratings have taken a beating

While his dedication for the welfare of the brave heroes is exemplary, Duterte’s manner
of showing his support can be at times questionable. His exhortations and statements can be
seen by sectors as offensive and tasteless. Maybe it’s the machismo talking but a lot of sectors
are raising their hackles because of the President’s penchant to brandish a different brand of
humor.
The seemingly nonchalant way of espousing rape has been seen as tasteless by pro-
women’s rights groups and even the religious groups have raised the issue to him. He still
maintains his brand of humor is based on the humor of the masses and he means no harm.
The atmosphere was quite festive and the real winners were the
small entrepreneurs peddling water and food to the protesters and rally-goers. Proof that there
is an opportunity to be had in such an occasion.
He also touched on the idea of federalism and the need to meet it head on. While many
are still against the idea with the penchant of the government to be too sweeping in its
proclamations, it really needs to be resolved in the most opportune time. While it may be good
to follow a federalist form of government, the liberalist thinking of Filipinos would
definitely oppose such a transition.
It still is not clear why the government is adamant about the shift in form. The fact that
it has economic implications is evident but the security concerns attached to it may prove to be
quite insurmountable. The rebellion in Marawi and the subsequent missteps by the PNP and
the AFP are proof to back up the opposition to a transition.
REACTION PAPER ABOUT SONA 2017
The second SONA of Pres. Rodrigo Duterte highlighted the
accomplishments of our government especially on war against drugs and
criminalities. As what he said on his propaganda during the election campaign
period he promised that he will be going to solve these issues in just six months
but the result was failed to bust and requested for extension. He was shocked of
the result and he requested for extention because of the reason that he failed on
what he had promised. I believe to our President that someday we will reach and
fulfill on what he want to achieve to become our country become peaceful. The
illegal drugs are the reason why some Filipinos are suffering and some of them
are fighting and imprisoned. That's also one of the reason why he revive the the
death penalty and reimpose on heinous crimes. Our president also mentioned
that he will never tolerate corruption in his administration. About on the
happened in Mindanao, I agree to his decision that there'll be Marshall Law so
that there's a peace and calmness for the people in Mindanao. Federalism also is
for the people in Mindanao because they want to create their own state, they
want to separate. I salute to our President because he said "No to NationWide
Marshall Law. 'Wag niyo akong igagaya kay Marcos" he just want Peace to the
people of Mindano. Just peace.

On Education that he said that he will affirm his commitment to fully

implement the K-12 program which focuses the training skills, learner mobility
and for the lifelong learning of the Filipinos because we all know that Education
has a big role and impact for each individual. Even he never mentioned in his
speech about the Free Tuition in some of the Colleges/Universities. I am thankful
still that he want to fulfill his commitment on the K-12 program.

As a summary of, I believe that President Duterte will fulfill his promised
that there'll be change in this country. Let's help and unite so that PEACE will fill
our country and for the whole world. We just put God in the center of all plan and
he will bless and guide us.
